True To The West Coast

Kokane is a west-coast veteran. Believe it or not, he is more of a contemporary of Snoop Dogg rather than a protege. Kokane got his start ghostwriting for west coast groups like NWA and Above the Law. He got involved in beef with Dre and Snoop, which probably hurt his career before it could really launch. Years later, Kokane ironically became famous for being a protege of Snoop Dogg. He was all over Tha Last Meal album. He wasnt rapping however, he contributed his g-funk background vocals to over half of the songs. He was also prominently featured on Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle Allstars disc. He appeared as "Mr. Kane." to be more accepted by the mainstream. He even addresses using the name "Mr. Kane" on the song "Back 2 Tha Clap". This is a traditional west coast album. All of the instrumentals are straight g-funk. He makes his return to rhyming on every song, and switches to his Bootsy Collins-esque vocals on the hooks. He also does background vocals for himself. West coast MCs, 40 Glocc and Kurupt make appearences too. The latterwas once one of his worst enemies. I give it 4 stars because some of the songs are weak. But if you are a g-funk junkie, this album was made for you.

Thank GOD for Kokane...

Now, I’ve got some real "West Coast Funk" I can bump this Summer time.

West Coast Is Back

The West Coast is back, just wait until The Game's album to drop in November.

Though Kokane had been involved with the West Coast rap scene since the dawn of gangsta rap, he was never able to secure any substantial success for himself until 2000 when he played a major role in the success of Snoop Dogg's Tha Last Meal. His eccentric vocal approach is half fluid rapping and half weird P-funk-influenced singing. This balance made Kokane...
