iTunes Review
Just as Live! Bootleg defined Aerosmith in the ‘70s, and Classics Live! defined the band in the ‘80s, A Little South of Sanity defines them for the ‘90s, their most commercially successful period and it finds the veteran band in fighting form. Recorded during tours for Get a Grip (1993/1994) and Nine Lives (1997/1998), these tracks sound exactly the way a live album should: a little louder, a little edgier, but with all the uproarious attitude and whip-smart precision of the studio recordings. “Back In the Saddle,” “Last Child,” and “Walk This Way” all translate the band’s razor-sharp riffs to a stadium setting. “Falling In Love (Is Hard on the Knees),” “The Other Side,” and “Dude (Looks Like a Lady)” are emboldened by the presence of a horn section, while grandiose ballads like “Angel” are presented in refreshingly stripped-down versions. Producer Jack Douglas, who oversaw early Aerosmith classics like Rocks and Toys In the Attic, helped pull this live collection together. While age and sobriety brought a new energy and focus to the Aerosmith live experience, their rendition of “Mama Kin” proves they still carry the reckless spirit of their youth.

My Review of Aerosmith
by AerosmithSuperFan98Let me get started by saying first off, I'm pretty young and I just got this album a few days ago after about a 3 month search. That said, let's talk about the album. These tracks are great! This album is even better because it has all of Aerosmith's big hits from the 70's to the 90's, and my favorite studio album is Get a Grip (and some of these tracks were recorded on the Get a Grip tour). So this album is good for anyone who likes the album Get a Grip. Although I was disappointed with a few tracks.
1). Eat the Rich - My favorite Aerosmith song was quite a disappointment on this album. Considering this is the first song on the record, I thought the album might not have been worth it after hearing Eat hte Rich live. This song also includes the Intro to the Get a Grip album. Overall rating (on a scale of 1 - 10): 4
2). Love in an Elevator - Boy was I dead wrong about the album not being worth it! My favorite track on the album! It sounds exactly like the studio version only better! Even though it isn't very clean, It's still a great song Overall rating: 10
3). Falling in Love (Is Hard on the Knees) - Another great song, but again, not very clean. I wasn't too familliar with this song when I heard it on the CD but Steven Tyler nailed the song perfectly! This was recorded during the Nine Lives tour. Overall rating: 9
4). Same Old Song and Dance - Simply Amazing guitar shredding from Joe Perry and Brad Whitford! I was amazed. My 2nd favorite on the CD. Overall rating: 10
5). Hole in my Soul - The opening had an early start, and kind of reminded me of the Television show The Simpsons, which was kinda cool. The only problem is that Steven Tyler swears alot in this song (and throughout the album for that matter). This is really not one of their biggest hits. Overall rating: 7
6): Monkey on My Back - This isn't a big hit either. The song was good for being performed live but, I never really liked the studio version so my Overall rating isn't gonna be very high. Overall rating: 6
7): Livin' on the Edge - This is off the Get a Grip album... Woo Hoo! Great song live, but the studio version was better. Still great, powerful, inspiring song. Overall Rating: 8
8): Cryin' - One of my favorite Aerosmith songs. Again it is off of Get a Grip. When they performed it live though I was extremely disappointed! Steven sounded way off and the huge instrumental ending wasn't so heavy, so this track was very depressing and lackluster. Overall rating: 4
9). Rag Doll - This song definitley brought me back to spirits when I heard it. Great song! Sounds like the studio version. Overall rating: 10
10). Angel - This song was kind of boring in the beginning, but once they hit the first chorus, the rest of the song was great! Overall rating: 8
11). Janie's Got a Gun - First off I'm completely annoyed withe Weird Al's Elmo's got a gun! This song expresses a serious matter and Weird Al Yankovic makes fun of Aerosmith and the song! Second, This song was amazing (and so is the next song) but still not as good as the studio version. Overall rating: 8
12). Amazing - This song was okay, but Aerosmith could have definitley played this better. Overall rating: 7
13). Back in the Saddle - First song on the second CD. Steven takes some time to interact with the crowd as he screams "I got blisters on my sisters!" We also find out he was at Magic Mountain in 1979. This track is the most explicit on the set. Although they really got the beginning hype going really well. Better than the studio version. Overall Rating: 10
14). Last Child - I hardly knew this song when I first heard it, but it became my 4th favorite on the setlist. Overall rating: 10
15). The Other Side - Really good! The backup vocals (yes, backup vocals) were amazing! The song itself was always extraordinary! Alot better live than the studio version! Overall rating: 9
16). Walk on Down - I wasn't too familiar with this song. I didn't really listen to when I heard Get a Grip. But this is my 3rd favorite on the CD! Absoloutely awesome from the beginning when all Joe Perry says Walk on Down. Overall rating: 10
17). Dream On - I know you can't bye the studio version of this song on iTunes, but get over it! The studio version and the live version sound exactly the same! Alot of people who wrote reviews for this album complain about not having Dream On's studio version. This version's awesome too! Overall rating: 9
18). Crazy - Pretty decent song, not the best on the album, but it's still worth it. Overall rating: 7
19). Mama Kin - Again alot of people complain that they want the studio version. The live version is SOOOOOOOOOO much better! Steven was awesome! Tom was awesome! Joe and Brad were extremely awesome! Joey was pounding on his drums really hard and it sounded awesome! This song was (you guessed it) AWESOME! Overall rating: 10
20). Walk This Way - This has always been one of my favorite Aerosmith songs. This song is great and I would definitley would recommend it. Overall rating: 9
21). Dude (Looks Like a Lady) - Decent song. The studio version is probably better, but the vocals were spot on! Overall rating: 8
22). What it Takes - The first minute or so is all Steven Tyler. None of the instruments come in for a while which I was kind of happy about that (even though I love Joe Perry's guitar playing) because Steven's voice is so pure. Overall rating: 9
23). Sweet Emotion - After two hours, this track closes off the album, and it sure ended in a bang! One of the best on the album! The guitar effects were really neat and fascinating! Great way to close off the CD! Overall rating: 10
Well that's my review on the album "A Little South of Sanity" that is made up of the songs by the talented band Aerosmith!
P.S. Don't listen to some of the other reviews. They only talk garbage about this CD. This CD really and truely is amazing!

Great live album but...
by R&FNR2043This is a really good album, but... Itunes has to get the studio albums that most of these songs come off. No Aerosmith collection is complete w/o their debut, Toys in the Attic, Rocks, etc. If you have to use this to get your 70's/80's Aerosmith fix, get tracks 4, 13,14, 17, 19,20, and 23. I'm not saying this album is bad, because it isn't, I'm just sayin they also need the studio recordings to go with the live version of the songs.
