Album Review
Bad Girls marked the high-water mark in Donna Summer's career, spending six weeks at number one, going double platinum, and spinning off four Top 40 singles, including the chart-topping title song and "Hot Stuff," which sold two million copies each, and the million-selling, number two hit "Dim All the Lights." Producers Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte recognized that disco was going in different directions by the late '70s, and they gave the leadoff one-two punch of "Hot Stuff" and "Bad Girls" a rock edge derived from new wave. The original two-LP set was divided into four musically consistent sides, with the rock-steady beat of the first side giving way to a more traditional disco sound on the second side, followed by a third side of ballads and a fourth side with a more electronic, synthesizer-driven sound that recalled Summer's 1977 hit "I Feel Love." Though remembered for its hits, the album had depth and consistency, concluding with "Sunset People," one of Summer's best album-only tracks. The result was the artistic and commercial peak of her career and, arguably, of disco itself. This two-CD reissue fits the original album on disc one with a sole bonus track, Summer's original demo of "Bad Girls." Disc two, dubbed "12" Singles & More," presents extended dance remixes of Summer hits from "I Feel Love" to the post-Bad Girls numbers "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" (a duet with Barbra Streisand) and "On the Radio," including versions of all four Bad Girls hits (the fourth being "Walk Away"). The packaging re-creates the expensive, glossy cover of the original LP, with Summer as a scantily clad streetwalker. The choices to augment the album are excellent, giving a good sense of Summer in her 1977-1980 prime.

Summer Rocks Out
Growing a little tired of her disco queen moniker, Summer embarks on what is her most daring departure to date. When originally issued in 1979, this 2-LP (15-song) set opened with the blazing, rock-tinged Hot Stuff that bled right into the funk anthem or better, tribute to hookers. Although three-quarters of the album could be qualified as "disco," there's nothing generic about what Summer and producers Giorgio Moroder and Pete Belotte created. They were and still rate as visionary music makers—far ahead of their time. And you'll be hard pressed to find anyone out there who fused dance music with rock any better than Summer. As demonstrated on this album, she delivers a multi-personae of vocal techniques that, till this day, characterize her as one of the greatest pop singers—ever. So kick back and enjoy one of dance music's most brilliant and fun collections—from the sassiness of Love Will Always Find You to the joyous and light-hearted, Dim All the Lights, to the moodiness of the synth classic, Sunset People. Also, catch the "demo" version of Bad Girls, the single that Donna crafted before she sang what would become the classic studio version—her all-time greatest hit.
One of the best ever
This is a can't miss album for those who either were around when this album came out, or for those in the younger crowd who are inquisitive to know where some of today's dance music was inspired. Other than the obvious disco classics (Hot Stuff, Bad Girls, Sunset People), the ballads are also very powerful and, I believe, provide the sensitive side of Ms Summer. This album was written about prostitutes (from what I've heard), each of which also has a tender and human side. And thus this record can also be considered introspective as well as totally balls-to-the-wall brainless when you just want to dance! This ranks up there as one of the best albums of all time, for this genre.
Her best Album
Donna Summer made her best album here. Big music fan here and this by far my favorite album of all time. Every song on this album is great except for "My Baby Understands". This was her last Disco album and her last great album but way to go out with a big bang with such a great album. The album starts with disco rock "Hot Stuff" and chuck full of disco (without strings) until the song "On My Honor" her ballad period album and then into the future sound of 80's disco NRG music with "Our Love", "Lucky", and "Sunset People". The second CD is great two and makes the album even more great. Her greatest long-version songs of the 70's of Donna Summer. This album will change how you look on albums. Enjoy!!
