One of my favorites ever!
This album is INCREDIBLE. The Barber is fresh and fun, very rarely achieved on such a popular work. The Bloch will change your life. The Walton is superb. I couldn't come up with an actual complain if I tried. Fantastic. Puts Joshua Bell in the top tier of violinists.
Amazing!
Barber is amazingly passionate and much better than Gil Shaham's harsh Barber. (Gil Shaham is great otherwise though) Walton is totaly amazing. it has such good contrasts and is very precise.
A Sprinter Running the Marathon
Joshua Bell is always splendidly passionate, but oi vey! The Baal Shem is taken WAY too slowly. There actually is a tempo marking on "Vidui" of 76, yet he has to take it at fifty, and to compensate, has to move at the Calmo instead of hold back. Though he excretes emotion in his sweat, sometimes his intonation pulls toward flat on the G String portions.
