Album Review
Starting Line were just kids when they made Say It Like You Mean It, their 2002 full-length debut. The Philly combo's energetic emo blushed with first-time love and heartbreak, and not coincidentally their songs resonated most with kids in the midst of similar drama summers. Everyone's a little older for Based on a True Story. Kenny Vasoli is still singing about girls in his life and the feelings in his heart, but in 2005 those topics include marriage, long-distance relationships, and "What does it all mean?" examinations of purpose. And True Story takes a cue from the softer touch of 2003's Make Yourself at Home EP, incorporating acoustic guitars, emphasizing Vasoli's edge-of-tears vocal, and favoring busy breaks rather than actual rocking. Although Starting Line have seemingly matured into a more grandiose version of A New Found Glory (without as much fun), they remain capable of a highlight like "Photography," an emo-adult contemporary ballad with surging keys and strings and love-dizzy lyrics ("You're making a small change to the way that you wear your heart/I like it better!").

Exceeding Expectations!
I listened to the first couple songs and thought that was going to be the best of the album, but I came to discover the songs toward the mid to the end are the real gems. I did not like Bedroom Talk but Surprise, Surprise surprised (sorry) me as the best song on the cd. The B-List is also very good. I found Ready annoying at first but quite addictive at a couple listening. I found myself saying "I gonna get ready" repeatedly at my friends. Stay Where I Can See You, The World, Artistic License, and Photograph I found as great entries to this great album. The first couple songs don't do the album justice but the rest make it a classic.
a compilation of beauty
This cd has hit me as one of the most underrated cd's i have ever listened to. This cd expresses the importance of variety and blend at the same time. I'm trying to say that all the songs on this cd are different but blend in such a beautiful way. No one song stands out but also no one song falls down. I commend the starting line for creating a cd with beauty and rock that seems to come together in a masterpiece of melody. If you are looking to buy only a few songs though( i dont know why) i would suggest them in this order: 1)surprise,surprise 2)Stay where i can see you 3)The world 4)cut! Print it 5)Bedroom talk
Pretty awesome stuff!!!
This is a totally awesome CD for your money, a great addition to anybodys iPod. There is so much on this CD, and since they arent one of those big-named bands, they dont sound the same in every single song after they get one hit. Big viriety, great noise, stuff you can get pumped up to, and listen to over and over and over, without getting sick of it. Top Three songs on this-Bedroom Talk, which is really good, better then Fall Out Boy, i think atleast, then comes, The World, which is a totally awesome song...no doubt about it, prob. in my top 10 of the year, and the third spot is just tied by all the other songs.....BUY THIS CD!!! i give it a 8 out of 10
