iTunes Review
The number of the beast (that’s 666, kids) is recounted; the martial rhythms of metal are instituted; and singer M. Shadows incorporates as many of the techniques of emo and screamo as he can jam into these 11 tracks. For their third album, Huntington Beach, California’s Avenged Sevenfold aren’t exactly giving a history lesson in heavy metal, but they have learned quite a few tricks of the genre. There’s the epic scope of their seven-plus minute compositions (and there are four of those here) where they counterbalance their merciless assault with atmospherics that suggest one day they will “mature” to mainstream accessibility. (Don’t laugh, it happened for Metallica.) There’s also the steamrolling passion of their shorter tunes (the economical five-minutes of “Burn It Down”), proving that AS are jacks of all metal trades. Guitarists Zacky Vengeance and Synyster Gates obviously know how to employ a twin-guitar attack – even if it is occasionally blurred by cellos or the occasional ballad.

Amazing
by 3500XThis album is really good. I personally like Beast and the Harlot, Bat Country, and Seize the Day. To me, those are the top three songs. I have liked A7X for a while and they are still good as they have ever been and this album will stay a classic for years to come.
Awesome
by GuitarrulesWhy is this not a five star?
A7X's 2ND BEST ALBUM EVER!!!!
by XXA7XSynGatesXXEasily their second best next to Waking the Fallen of course. the orgasmic songs arrrreee.....
1.Beast and the Harlot 10/10- this song is sooo far beyond epic that...idk wat too say. Syn and Zackys guitar work is unbelievable. the g tar riffs r outstanding the chorus is great. the g tar solo made my mind explode. and The Rev's drum solo was absolutely god like. a perfect start for a perfect album.
2.Burn It Down 7/10- not exactly their best song theyve mad but still has its moments. it has a great riff but it just didnt do anything for me especially coming after Beast and the Harlot.
3.Blinded in Chains 8.5- A grreat song but again not one of my favs. it has mind boggling riffs and vocals and a pretty catchy chorus.
4.Bat Country-9/10 this is the song where you ask someone if they know it and they say no. then you have them listen to it and their like o yaeh i no it. this song its theyre most popular song ever probably. its been on a lot of videogame soundtracks and its the only song ever played on the radio by them. Anywayy... this song is great overall but what stood out to me the most was probably the Rev's drumming. was rolling constantly through out otherwise it was just really fast beats and stuff... and syns solo is just godly...as usual.
5.Trashed & Scattered 7/10- Again not one of my favs. its a fast paced song in all but its just not all too appealing to me.
6.Seize the Day 10/10- Another one of my favorite A7x songs. Although it is the slowest on the album it is one of their best songs. Shadows' wrote about his girlfriend, Val. It may be slow but it also has one of my favorite Synyster Gates solos of all time. If u dont like the whole slow song thing at least listen to the solo it starts at around 2:52.
7 Sidewinder 9.5/10- this is probably A7x's most UNDERRATED song of all time. it is such a great song song. great use of both electric and acoustic guitars. and the chorus...its just....well im still speechless. just the way Shadow's says "Cant you feel the poison risin" just stuns me everytime i I listen to it. You must get this song disregarding what other people say about it.
8.The Wicked End 9.5/10- Another great song all around. Syn and Zacky's guitar work is pure genius especially syn's solo. it didnt appeal to me at first but i gave it a second chance...just wait for Shadows to come in and then the song and everyone else just gets better.
9.Strength of the World 9/10 this songs starts out slow and is played acousticly but at around 1:30-ish it begins to speed up and turns into this outstanding epic. Great chorus great lead and backing vocals and the solo...why the solo is out of this world. at 9:14 it is A7x's longest song so far.
10.Betrayed 10/10- everytime i listen to this song it really touches me. they wrote it in honor of Pantera's Dimebag Darryl who was shot and killed at a concert once. this is one of those songs where you really should pay attention and listen to what they are saying. Either way its still a phenomanal song overall.
11.M.I.A.-10/10- they opened the album with a perfect 10 and closed the album with a perfect 10. Shadows wrote this song to honor a few of his friends fighting overseas in the middle east. it starts off very slow but then goes into a song that makes me c*m when i hear it. Brillient guitar work and vocals and the solo are all spectacular perhaps the best or second best on the album. the riffs are orgasmic as well as everything else but they stand out the most. Again this is a song where you have to listen to the lyrics they just speak to me is all.
City of Evil (Album) 10/10-Well, they did it. A7X was able to pull off two consecutive perfect albums. they opened it perfectly with Beast and The Harlot, and closed it perfectly with M.I.A. as well as Betrayed and their 3rd ever, ballad Seize the Day. A fantastic album by a fantastic band. City of Evil is definetly a must buy and idk y people havent bought it yet whether you like them or not.
RIP Dimebag
