Not Good
Hate it.
First of all i don't like the original but this is crap
Poor engineering/producing ruins it.
What makes the TV show's energy so great is that the performances lack all the studio processing they normally put on vocals. In A Capella, there aren't any other instruments to cover up this processing. It's all very exposed, and as such you can really hear any Melodyne/Autotune/editing, and it tends to render the performance emotionally useless when used excessively like this. When Ben Folds recorded his A Capella record, most of the recordings came out without any audible evidence of these studio techniques. I can't imagine why an engineer would not want to make a song sound like a believable performance if it's possible. And it IS possible to do a lot of comping and a little pitch correction without things sounding completely lifeless, so there's really no excuse. It's sacrificing quality for the sake of an ideal of perfection, that, when actually achieved, lessens the quality that much more. If a performer ACTUALLY needs that much correction, then maybe you just don't have enough takes to comp from. Also, what a pale, broad song this is. The performers don't care about this song, clearly.
