iTunes Review

Beauty Will Rise is an album born out of tragedy. Written and recorded in response to the death of his five year-old daughter Maria, Steven Curtis Chapman seeks a way to transcend his grief and strengthen his faith over the course of its 12 tracks. In contrast to the unbridled Christian optimism typifying most of his work, the songs here deal frankly with despair, avoiding easy answers. Chapman’s songs to and about Maria — especially “Just Have to Wait” and “February 20th” — are sadly beautiful, built around his plaintive, slightly breathless voice and sparse acoustic accompaniment. His conversations with God — “Heaven Is the Face,” “Questions,” “I Will Trust You” — are remarkable for their honesty and humble wisdom. As he confronts his own anguish, he speaks to the suffering of others in the stark, hymn-like “Jesus Will Meet You There.” The solace of “Spring Is Coming” closes the album on a note of renewal without denying the pain that preceded it. Chapman sings these songs with a quiet intensity that’s both riveting and heartrending.

Wow

I am blown away once again at Steven's ability to open his heart and let God use him to touch on so many difficult emotions. Each and every song are so special. He really touches the heart in a way that not many song writers can. Most importantly, you can really feel the love of God come through on this album...Thanks again Steven.

Great Album Beginning To End

Every song on this album is truly amazing. It is hard to imagine trying to put together an album like this just one year after such a tragedy. The words will hit home to everyone who has ever lost someone close suddenly and all the feelings and questions which follow.

Beauty

Steven shows with this album what it means to be a true singer/songwriter. He feels, he lives, he writes. For so long his music has been about ministering to others. This was a journey of his very own that I feel privledged to even get a small glimpse of. Pure raw emotion that at times you can feel he is almost afraid to share or admit he is feeling. Then as the music and the album plays and grows is comes back to what his music has always done minstered others when that was never the intent.

I personally would describe it as real beauty. It is painful but always true.
