If you like the samples, you'll like the CD.
Not always are song samples good indicators of entire songs, or especially an entire CD, but in this case they do a very good job of giving the listener a good idea of what they're in for. Ernest Gonzales sounds like a more complex Four Tet "There Is Love In You," is similar to Yppah, but you can definitely hear more of an experimental hip-hop beat influence, a la Flying Camel, Nosaj Thing, Prefuse 73, etc.
The album plays very well from start to finish, and it's great upbeat background music for any time of the day. Try the samples; how much you enjoy the samples as a whole will dictate how much you'll like the album. This will defintely be getting it's fair share of airplay from me.
Great album
I was just turned on to Ernest Gonzales and have really enjoyed him. This album is really awesome, really chill. He's got some really cool sound design going on, reminds me of some classic video games. I'd highly reccomend this album if you like artists like Four Tet or Bonobo.
