Ortega's Beginnings
This collection is splendid. Two-hours of bliss for distracted minds and exhausted souls. Elegant, moving, intimate and uncluttered music. Manna.
Beginnings
Excellent for a conservative contemporary audience; besides about 4 tracts that are pretty "rocky" The early works of Brother Ortega are his best in my opinion. His taste seems to have changed in his later works.
Beautiful music
Beautiful music. There may not be a more reverent and stirring rendition of Come Thou Fount. All of the songs are wisely selected and beatifully recorded.

Classically trained as a pianist but also steeped in the Hispanic tradition of his New Mexico homeland, gospel singer/songwriter Fernando Ortega recorded more than a half-dozen LPs for various labels before signing to Myrrh/Word in 1997, as part of a Christian musical renaissance which saw a variety of musical traditions entering the liturgies of mainline churches. An aficionado of American and Irish folk as well as the Spanish-oriented music he grew up with, Ortega also studied early music and hymns...
