Customer Reviews

All That Remains debut is a grand one at that.

iTunes is wrong. This, Behind Silence and Solitude, is All That Remains first album, not This Darknened Heart. Just wanted to state that. All That Remains is one of the few metalcore bands I like, mainly for their balance between brutality and melody. I especially became of fan of the band after hearing the hit This Calling, from their breakthrough The Fall of Ideals. I purchased this album on compact disc yesterday, and listened to it today. I must say that this is a much earlier All That Remains. Phil Labonte's vocals are much more harsh (the entire album lacks clean vocals entirely), and the guitars are much more downtunes. The overall sound of the album isn't metalcore. It leans more towards melodic death metal. Still, this is great for any All That Remains fan. Songs that stood out for me are From These Wounds, Clarity, and Erase. While the dueling guitars posess a great sound, the majority of the album is freshman effort material at best. Still, this record is great. It's definitely worth the $7:92 on iTunes and the $9:99 on CD. I hope that This Darkened Heart has a better offering.

My final rating: ****1/2

Eh, it's ok

I'm a fan but to be honest this album is just kind of dull. It's an ok album. Deffinetly helps you to appreciate their newer albums.

Great Album For Fans Of The Band

It is always cool to listen to the earlier works of some of your favorite bands. It helps draw together a timeline of where they were, both technically and emotionally, and where they are now. You can really hear the guitarists' classical influence in this album inparticular. However, the production and sound quality is shaky at best and you can tell they still had much to learn not only about music, but also their own personal voices. Great album for previous fans but not for fans just starting to listen to them.
