Bel Canto Spectacular, a recital featuring tenor Juan Diego Flórez, delivers exactly what it promises: a spectacular release of vocal showpieces by one of the rising superstars of the early 21st century, singing scenes and arias by the great bel canto composers Rossini, Bellini, and Donizetti. Flórez's voice is not particularly large, but he has a terrific, agile technique a warmly enveloping tone, and a dramatic flair for fully inhabiting these operatic characters. He also has a sure grasp on the stylistic conventions of this repertoire and knows how to exploit them without going overboard. Daniel Oren leads Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana in sensitive accompaniment. Decca's sound is clean and present with good balance.

Bel'Canto - indeed
If you have already heard Mr. Florez in Concert or in opera or one of his previous recordings, this download is self recommending. While there are a number of excellent Lyric Spinto tenors singing today there are few-very few pure lyric tenors with the technique and the range of Mr. Florez. In addition, the clear and yet absolutely beautiful tone he produces with his excellent musical instincts, make him nearly one of a kind. It is exciting as well as moving to hear him sing the music on this disc. I thought {with over 50 years of listening) I had heard the famous arias from "La fille" and "Elisir" sung about as well as could be until I heard No.5"Una Furtiva" sung by Florez!! It is unsurpassably beautiful. If bel - canto survives it will be because of singing like this. Very highly recommended.

There is a an stunning clarity in this voice - a one-of-a-kind sound! The world has heard many great tenors, each respected for their own unique sound and their individual strengths! Mr. Florez deserves a place among them, undoubtedly! If you love beautiful singing, beautiful music, and the sound of a brilliant tenor voice, this investment is one you'll not regret.
Bel Canto Spectacular with Juan Diego Florez
I have heard all of these arias before, most by Pavarotti. He is a true successor to Pavarotti. His is not a big voice, but is extremely brilliant and very flexible. True coloratura tenors are very rare. He reminds me of Pavarotti in the late 1960's. I hope with age he develops the subtlety that Pavarotti mastered in his later career.
