The First!
What can I say. In 1995 I kept reading the buzz on this guy named Ben Folds and Ben Folds Five. The second comming of Elton John and Joe Jackson they were saying. Of course, with press like, what music fan's interest wouldn't be piqued. So I bought the album. I've been a Ben Folds fan ever since. In fact, Ben Folds has been my favorite artist now for the last 15 years. No one comes close. I've seen him only three times in concert, but his shows never disappoint. Its amazing how much sound can come out of a three piece band. For new Ben Folds fans, start here. Some of his best song are on this album including Philosophy and Underground. Enjoy.
The Start of a Genius!
It's hard to believe that this album is 15 years old now, but this is where Ben Folds shines the most. Don't get me wrong, I feel his solo career is totally succesful and I love every work he puts out, but with more current albums such as Lonely Avenue, Folds appears to be straying away from the piano a little more. It's still there; the dominant instrument as always, but due to the fact that Ben has been producing almost everyone of his solo albums in their entireity, the "pop" in Ben Folds is more noticable. Tracks like Uncle Walter, Philosophy and Underground have insane piano grooves and solos that arent just heard anymore from his current work. No disrespect to his new material, because it's great and authentic music, but this is the stuff that I love listening Ben play the most. My favorite album by Ben.
