Album Review

Beneath the Surface finds original lead singer Maysa Leak returning to the Incognito fold. Coincidentally or not, the record finds the group moving deeply into smooth, laidback, jazzy soul. It's a seductive sound and the group executes it well, even though there ironically isn't that much substance beneath the surface.

Life and Love!

I have had this CD for a while and I love it. Fountain of Life from the guitar solo beginning encompasses any true Jazz lovers mind. The lyrics if listened to carefully takes true fans on a journey of Life and Love. Labour of Love, in a dead end tie with Fountain of Life as my favorite....I am speechless on this song. The lyrics from the beginning convey a story like a old blues song or a spiritual. Identifying with not only the listener but also with the person he is conversing with. The instrumentals are fluid in a Incognito way. Meaning they are great. All Jazz, Incognito fans should have this album.

The Best of Incognito's Work

If there is one CD that I would have to choose out of the Incognito collection, this would be it. The harmonies, vibes, and beats are excellent and will definitely get your blood pumping! If there is any doubt in your mind about purchasing this entire collection...throw it away because this is an everlasting collection from one of the best jazz groups Incognito!

The album review above is garbage

Beneath the surface is probably the best incognito record out there. The notion that there's no substance to this record is complete garbage. There's plenty of substance here, if you're tuned in. What really differentiates this record is the sound - timeless fender rhodes, funk bass lines, catchy drums, and backing vocals that Boz Scaggs would be proud of.
