Album Review

A well thought-out collection for both fans and newcomers, The Best of Natacha Atlas is one of those all too rare compilations with the artist's involvement. Atlas not only picked the songs, she's decided to update some of the older tracks with new vocals and other remix touches. This updating feels perfectly natural coming from an artist who blends traditional Middle Eastern music with beat-driven electronica, besides the fact it gives the established fan base a good reason to consider the collection. Exotic songs from her homeland sung over slick beats mix with Atlas' sensual and trippy interpretations of Western material and the running order sorts it all out nicely. What holds the collection together is Atlas' breathy but strong, so very sweet voice and the playful but respectful attitude she takes toward song selection. Her readings of "I Put a Spell on You" and "You Only Live Twice" are filled with so much genuine passion it's hard to consider it camp, but Atlas does add some levity to her heady musical surroundings with her high-spirited singing. That "Leysh Nat' Arak" appears in three different versions without wearing out its welcome should tell you something about how creative and inventive this artist can be. Don't stop here, but start here if you're unfamiliar with the talented, entrancing, and bold Natacha Atlas.

A Must Own

Natacha Atlas is a rare gem that only comes along once in a lifetime. She has that unique ability to mix her Arabian/Middle Eastern/Egyptian musical sensibilities with the a touch of European edge. If you have to buy only on album by Atlas, make it this one.

Good Compilation....But I Have Some Comments....

While Natacha is incredible, I am not sure if this compilation has done her true justice. I don't like the ideas of the radio edits because I believe it takes away from the beauty of the song in it's whole. And while Leysh Nat'Arak is a fabulous song, it doesn't need to make an appearence on this album 3 times. The two remixes after the new version were not necessarly needed. I also would have loved to have seen some songs of the lesser known album, "Foretold in the Language of Dreams". While not her original style, this album shows another side of Natacha and it almost seems ignored as a triumph. And some of the songs on this compilation I wish weren't here and I wish i saw some different songs. But Natacha is an artist to be respected and praised. Way to go!!!!!

New Innovative Music, similar to Tawher’s music

She is worth it, I love her and she has the voice, her style similar to Tawher, Except that Tawher mix rock and hip hop in his Music,...she has the Style that speaks to me.
