While it is advisable that anyone interested in the works of Tim Buckley check out his individual albums and live performances, this Best Of is a solid, general overview of his entire career. Since he had few “hits” and conceived his work in the album format, there will be questions over the selections, but there isn’t anything here that doesn’t belong. “Song For Janie” is from his self-titled first album when Buckley was only 19 and it shows his youth and his brilliance. His career was one of constant motion and listening to these eighteen tracks, one hears something completely different throughout. “Once I Was” was a brilliant anti-war single. “Strange Feelin’” dipped into an improvisatory folk-jazz mode. “Happy Time,” “I Must Have Been Blind” and “The River” bring forth the timeless mastery of his Blue AfternoonLP. “Song to the Siren,” made popular by the Goth outfit This Mortal Coil, is from his unmatchable Starsailor collection. His covers of Fred Neil’s “Dolphins” and Tom Waits’ “Martha” become Buckley songs through his artistic dominance.

A Great Deal

This is a great collection although I'm not sure how "I Never Asked To Be Your Mountain" and "Phantasmagoria" could have been left out. His cover of "The Dolphins" is a studio performance that shouldn't be missed. His own compositions, "Morning Glory" and"Once I Was," are beautifully written and sung with heartfelt emotion. "Move With Me" is great r&b. This collection shows the artist's versatility quite nicely.

Phenomenal!

Tim Buckley is the lone speaker for his own self-invented genre that transcends what music you have heard, and will want to hear afterwards. His music is a combination of folk, jazz and his own avant-garde style that truly makes use of what he believed to be his greatest musical tool, his voice It's breathtaking, where every track is something different to experience--and then relish once it's over and start over again. This album is a good start to exploring Buckley's multicolored style. I would highly recommend downloading the entire album but my favorites are; Goodbye and Hello Sing a Song for You Once I was Dolphins Song for Janie Aren’t you the girl
