Not the originals... but not supposed to be
I purchased this album knowing what I was getting but am still pleased. Tracks from this album won't make my favorite playlists but I appreciate the new arrangements. However, I would not pay for a concert ticket if they toured with this. I think the time, energy, and talent would have been better spent on new material. Gambling was a great record and I am a bit disappointed by this follow-up. Helloween should have released a two disc set, one of new material and one with these arrangements. It would have gone over better with all fans.
Not Great, Not Bad
While the metal purist might find this album disturbing, it still has some good music on it. To me, this album is comparable with Blind Guardian's Forgotten Tales album. The basic premise behind this is to offer some of their classic songs with a lighter side.
Brilliant!
First off, don't let the title "Best Of" fool you. This is not just another, thrown together Greatest Hits album that some bands do just to fulfill a contractual obligation. This goes way beyond just a re-recording by the band but a complete reimagining and new vision without any lyric changes and still finding a new and varied sound for these songs. Definitely an album for fans that can listen with an open mind and an appreciation for what they have achieved here and over their 25 year career. The only down side is I wish they had included a digital booklet.
