Sara At Her Best: Live. Could have been better, but still good.

Anyone that's a fan of Sara Bareilles knows that her talent far exceeds "Love Song." She is a gifted songwriter, and an even more gifted vocalist. And live, she is unstoppable. It's great to finally have a well-recorded live concert album of Sara B. For casual fans, Between The Lines: Live at the Filmore will be a nice accompaniment to Little Voice. To hardcore fans, there's a lot to love, but also a lot to be disappointed about. First the positives. Sara herself is as strong as ever, inflicting beauty and prowess in her songs. The concert repertoire starts and ends strongly, flows smoothly, and nothing feels slow or dragged. Vegas have never sounded better, while the new arrangement to Love On The Rocks should put a smile on everyone's face. Many The Miles is as fun as ever, and her newest song, August Moon, is among her best. Sittin' On The Dock of the Bay is a wonderful cover, and worth the purchase alone. But for fans of Sara that have been listening for awhile, dissappointment might seep in. Bottle It Up, Love Song, Fairytale, Gravity, and Many the Miles are all good, but we hear them over and over and over. And besides the cover and the new song, each selection is your typical Little Voice fair. One of her strongest songs, Come Round Soon, and one of her most heartwrenching songs, One Sweet Love, are the only two Little Voice tracks missing from this show. Then there's the classic Undertow, which she has perfected live - nowhere to be found. And the ever wonderful song Little Voice, that was cut from the album with the title of the same name, is not here either. So, while this album is good, it had the potential to be truly great. Unfortunately, with the lack of old classics, new takes, and those yet-unrecorded songs, "good" is where this one sits. Keep in mind that this is also being released as a live concert DVD. Perhaps the live video experience would make up for the audio. So for those that want to experience the visuals as well, buy the DVD (not currently available on iTunes, but in stores now).

genuine, organic

I would just like briefly address a comment someone else wrote. They stated they didn't feel her songs, and I must retort that that person has never been in love, never had their heart broken, probably never had an real emotion at all. If you can, I would recommend everyone to spend 4 more dollars and go by the DVD the accompanies this album at Best Buy, or wherever. You will fall in love with it- Sara is a live performer, that's how she started and that is how she keeps her music authentic. It's amazing to hear an artist such as Sara, sing with so much emotion because she wrote the music in it's entirety. From lyrics to piano arrangements (and other instruments too). There are a few heartfelt songs she used to sing on tour that didnt make it to Little Voice, that I hope she will include in her next album. I can only ask every artist put at much organic emotion into her art as she does, and it is well represented in this live album. She never lets me down and always has the ability to touch a cord within me that no other artist can. Buy this album!

BETTER LIVE THAN STUDIO

Sara doesn't need computers or even other instruments to add to her songs. Every single song here is a must-buy! No joke! Best!
