iTunes Review

By the late ‘80s, Duran Duran were no longer receiving the same intense airplay that had won them their huge, adoring audience at the beginning of the decade. They were still racking up hits, but it wasn’t with the same force. As a result, many of the band’s finest songs have been overlooked. This 2010 reissue sharpens the sound, expands the view, and helps fans complete their collections with mixes that may have eluded them the first time around. “I Don’t Want Your Love” romps with an immediacy that guarantees it as a dance-floor favorite. “All She Wants Is” keeps the excitement level at high peaks with plenty of electronic shocks to the sound. “Too Late Marlene” is a ballad lined with attractive harmonies. “Lake Shore Driving” floats out on gritty keyboard lines and intricate percussion. Various mixes of “I Don’t Want Your Love,” including a Shep Pettibone 7” Mix, provide new angles to the group. The mixes show how the band kept their popularity in the clubs even as MTV and radio were turning to other sounds.

Great Duran Duran

This album really shines on the remasters! The extras alone are worth the price. Brings back great memories of driving around So Cal blasting this out of my car! Thank you Duran for another great re-release.

In the shadows of Notorious...

To my recollection the only thing Big Thing had going against it was that it was released after the uneven Notorious, during a time when many assumed that the loss of two Taylors equated to the end of Duran Duran. I will admit that I was among those who felt that Duran's best days were behind them and that Big Thing was probably not worth investigating. Wow, how wrong can one be - it's an accomplished album, probably stronger than many of their more famous and more popular earlier works. It's almost like they settled into their new formation after Notorious and Big Thing is where it all gelled. Absolutely deserving of the (Remastered) treatment, and if you're at all a Duran fan, well worth a listen. It's brilliant.

This album slams and helped me thru many all-nighters

1988-the year of BIG THING-This is the album that DD took the next step into a sound that you hear in every album from there after and all the way into RCM and AYNIN. Fantastic sounds. ALL SHE WANTS IS is one of their best songs. That's more! Thanks for the re-release DD. The memories are back. Including the naked dancers behind the screens at the concert.

Duran Duran personified new wave for much of the mainstream audience. And for good reason, too. Duran Duran's reputation was built through music videos, which accentuated their fashion-model looks and glamorous sense of style. Without music videos, it's likely that their pop-funk — described by the group as the Sex Pistols meets Chic — would never have made them international pop stars. While Duran Duran did have sharper pop sensibilities than their new romantic contemporaries like Spandau...
