Billy is a bad boy...

I believe that when you are dealing with an artist as great as Billy Preston, hearing every angle of his work and musicianship is a must. We have all heard the great work, now it's time to hear the "not as great, yet equally important work." Billy's Bag is a collection of what, to this musician's ear, seems to be a quick studio cover tune project. Yet it is a highly fun, sometimes brilliant insight into a more unpolished, under-produced Billy Preston. Released in 1966 under the SUE label, it was originally titled "Most Exciting Organ Ever". This is probably Sue's attempt to cash in on the 60's "organ groove" craze. Even Floyd Kramer released a dance organ record in the same period, only his had a major deficit in the "soul" category. You should buy this album. If you only buy one tune, get Low Down.

The Genius of Mr. Billy Preston

Billy Preston shows us why he was one of the most sought after musicians of all time...

Not the best

Billy has so many great albums that are hard to find. It's My Pleasure, Music is My Life, I Wrote a Simple Song, and Billy Preston, really featured his organ playing and voice. We need to see more choices for such a great artist who left us so soon.

Preston was a prodigy on organ and piano, recording during the early '60s for Vee-Jay and touring with Little Richard. He was a loose-limbed regular on the mid-'60s ABC TV series Shindig, proving...
