Album Review
Subtitled The Love Songs Collection, this collection promotes the idea of Cher as torch ballad singer, a notion not as far-fetched as one would imagine. Taken from five different albums recorded during her '70s stay at the MCA and Kapp labels, Bittersweet states a strong case for the lung power of Cher's vocal range, as well as her taste for challenging and off-the-beaten-path material. Her Bittersweet White Light album from 1973 (her first with a full orchestra) is here in its entirety, along with selections from Foxy Lady, Dark Lady, Half Breed and Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves, all from Sonny & Cher's second wave of popularity and many featuring Sonny Bono at the production helm. Highlights include nice readings of "By Myself," "I Got It Bad and That Ain't Good," "Am I Blue," "How Long Has This Been Going On," "More Than You Know," "The Man That Got Away" and "What'll I Do." Cher as torch singer? If you can suspend belief for the time it takes to pop this one in the player and listen, you're in for a very pleasant surprise.

Good, Not the Best
Cher's album Bittersweet....interesting. The mix is not what we expect from Cher, because most of the songs are not commonly played. Most of the songs have a slow beat, lyrics, and a 60-s vibe, though most of them also have the same lyrics and beat and 60s thing going on. The album is love songs, so how many different things can you sing about while trying to base the album on love? Clearly not too many, as Cher proves with this collaboration. These songs seem to be based on the same topics. Interesting, Cher has other love songs, which seem to come out with more of a bang than these. Songs such as "If I Could Turn Back Time" and "I Got You Babe" could have redeemed the album, but as you see did not. Songs such as ''What'll I do' are unique in not such a great way, because they are so....Barbara Streisand-ish. Clearly this is not one of Cher's better albums. She is amazing on other albums, but not this one. And this album is definetely not worth it for $9.99. Buy another, such as 'The very best of Cher'....that ones definetely worth your money AND listening time.
Outstanding Torch Songs By Cher like on Sonny and Cher show
Anyone who loves the standards, that Cher used to sing on her shows. This is a must. The album came in in 1973, with a full orchestra, and great arrangements of these torch songs. Years later Rod Steward, Michael Buble, Linda Rondstandt, Natile Cole, all came out with albums featuring songs from this era. IT IS A MUST FOR ANY CHER FANS, OR FANS OF THIS ERA.
