Best Album of 2006

The original came out in 2006, and I will admit at first it is a hard album to get into. The first time you hear the songs you're tempted to stop listening because the tracks can almost sound monotonous. But after you listen to the lyrics, listen to the passion in the lead singers voice you may begin to understand what makes Okkervil River one of the most poetic and in-depth bands you will ever come across. It's not that the album is smooth or easy to swallow, what makes it great is the rawness, these guys are playing their hearts out and that's something you don't see much of today in the clean-cut, neatly packaged, radio-friendly alternative industry. What you get is poetic imagery sung from a passionate lead accompanied by a real band, and that is what music should be all about.

Music to live by.

Okkerville River possesses just the right amount of wonderful.

A Masterpiece

Okkervil River are at their best on Black Sheep Boy. And their best is unbelievably good. Dissecting our species, our stories, and especially our emotions, Will Sheff kills us, kisses us, pleads us, and teaches us.
