Album Review

Blackout was the Scorpions' first majorly successful album, due to its clever balance of pop/rock (the title track), power ballads ("When the Smoke Is Going Down"), and catchy heavy metal ("Dynamite," "No One Like You"). Vocalist Klaus Meine had a throat operation prior to the record's release, and surprisingly, his voice sounds more melodic and lively than ever. The rest of the band sounds great as well, and the album is highlighted by the fast-paced performances of guitarists Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs. Blackout has arguably been called the Scorpions' best record ever, and that statement is not unjust — it has more energy than anything else they have ever released.

Customer Reviews

Gotta agree, the best Scorps album

Of the classic Scorpions albums, this is the definitive one for me. Back when there were sides to albums, side one was classic. The best Scopions song ever, in my opinion, appears here (No one like you). From top to bottom you can't go wrong. This one also has the best overlooked song to me. "Arizona" is an awesome tune with an extremely catchy ryhthym guitar and some pretty funny lyrics. If you like the Scorpions, you won't go wrong with this album.

Scorpions Blackout

Brings me back to 1985, this album rocks. Must have for any collection.

Excellent CD

No collection should be without this all time classic. Where I disagree with some reviewers who named Blackout the best Scorps album ever, it is without question the first album somebody who isn't familiar with Scorpions should buy. The album starts off with a bang with the title track, and it doesn't let up. No One Like You is the song that put Scorpions on the rock n roll map in the US (they were already huge in Europe and Asia), an all time classic, no question. Dynamite is in my opinion one of the most under rated Scorps songs, and also the hardest rocking song Scorps have ever recorded; also my opinion. If anybody out there thinks there is a better voaclist in hard rock/heavy metal then Klaus Meine when it comes to singing love songs, listen to When The Smoke Is Going Down and consider your mind changed. The 4th best Scorps album, which is like saying the fastest Porsche. Blackout is a must for every collection.
