Album Review
Just like the similarly titled 2009 album from Method Man and Redman, DJ Quik and Kurupt's Blaqkout is a throwback triumph that succeeds thanks to the hip-hop veterans' superior chemistry and informal attitude. Anyone expecting a courageous game changer will be disappointed by all the swaggering, sexual bragging, and irresponsible pimping the duo frontload onto the effort, but coming to terms with the overall weekend attitude is quick and easy, thanks to rock-solid hooks and Quik's production. On "Ohh!" he creates a head-bobbing backing track out of chopped-up vocals and smooth jazz keyboards, offering a G-Funk alternative to Timbaland's "Indian Flute." Key track "Do You Know" finds him blending blissed-out ambience and a Soul II Soul hook, but "F**k Y'All" employs Quik's classic formula with that West Coast funk over thumping bass. Doggpound member Kurupt shines on the latter track, summing up the album's reckless gangsta attitude with "I'm gonna slap him like the bitch that he is/Then I'm gonna turn around and slap the bitch that he with."

Evolving with the Genius
First of all, all you bullsh** wanna be Hip Hop fans need to stop buggin. Blaqkout's sonic quality is outstanding, Quik is steppin out of the box like Kanye did for 808's and Heartbreaks. You can't listen to this album once and form an opinion. Quik and Kurupt are givin us gangsta, International, playa, and food for thought type lyrics. Listen to some of the concepts and lyrics - you'll feel em. Quik is a very underrated (rapper especially) and producer. He's one of the only dudes that spit from the heart EVERY album. He could make commercial isht all day. It's not him, he's too deep for that. You can ride to this album, dance to it, smoke somethin to it, etc... Pick it up, don't sleep, support the West and learn a little about what Hip Hop is moving to in terms of new concepts and quality sounds. I gave it 4 stars because it's dope, but Quik has yet to make his dopest album ever...it's coming - until then THIS IS DEFINITELY WORTH THE 10 BONES!!! Peace, Love and Evolution baby. JFN
now this is truly some next level
quik said people would take a little bit to get this. And as I can see see by most of the wack reviews he was rite . If u don't get this u truly don't understand the west coast reformation . Come yall its time for change lets elevate our minds to the next level . This is some grown folk music no child should buy this cuz 9 times outta 10 they won't get it .
BlaQKout Review
Overall, very disappointing. Some tracks stand out like "The Appeal" "Cream" & "BlaQKout" but others like "Whatcha Wanna Do" & "Exodus" are downright horrible. Sadly, this is Quik's WORST attempt. Lack of balance and fluidity; The whole album format just seems out of sync. Following the lead of some of the stand out tracks would have made for a more solid, parallel and well-rounded album. However, I'm a Quik fan 'til the end...Hopefully an exceptional forthcoming solo effort or a reunion with Suga Free will suffice for this 2-star effort from a 5-star artist.
