the first 3 tracks of Daysleeper's debut EP is te perfect soundtrack for a dark dance with the children of the night. Then Guided Visualization is the perfect soundtrack for the sunrise the morning after.. Fans of Joy Devision, Bauhaus, and Wire take note.. this is primo dark pop..

Bleak but Beautiful...
'Blazing Automatics' is an impressive first outing from the Miami-based "New Goth of Indie Rock" foursome, Daysleeper. Rather than aping the work of their predecessors, Daysleeper manages to do something that none of the current crop of post-punk revivial also-rans can lay claim to. The EP is actually fun to listen to; no mean feat when you consider the bleak but beautiful atmospheres the record traverses. All guitar sounds are managed by bass guitars (there are no six-strings on the EP), which does much to further the dark and solitary tone of 'Blazing Automatics'. Both "Crawl" and "Paranoid" have the inertia to propel a crowd at your local 80s night, but it is in the driving, widescreen bombast of "Guided Visualization" that the listener can really glimpse the potential this band has. The production duties by H.I.M. are handled with artful aplomb and frame Daysleeper's somber but majestic mood. All in all, a remarkable debut. I look forward to hearing more from them soon.
