iTunes Review

Nirvana’s debut album was recorded for a little more than $600 over a few days in engineer Jack Endino’s studio where many early grunge recordings from Seattle were made. No one knew the fortunes awaiting the band. Kurt Cobain’s songwriting is already in place as the jangle-pop hook of “About a Girl” illustrates. However, the production emphasizes the band’s molten crunch, not yet completely solidified without drummer Dave Grohl. (“Floyd the Barber” trudges with an anchoring rhythm section.) Still, it’s a fantastic voyage with the punk attitude of “Negative Creep” and “School” complimenting the psych undertones of the Shocking Blue cover, “Love Buzz,” and the opening fuzz-out of “Blew.” The 20th- Anniversary Deluxe Edition includes an 11-song live set from Portland, Oregon on February 9, 1990 that features the highlights from the debut album along with a punkish cover of the Vaselines’ “Molly’s Lips” and other originally non-LP cuts such as “Dive” and “Been A Son.” Cobain’s voice was gaining in authority and developing into the band’s most powerful weapon.

Customer Reviews

This album is far better than the Xbox!

This is a great Nirvana album. Many casual fans may be dissipointed to hear that is is very dissimiler to their albums such as Nevermind, becaust this album is very raw and extremely heavy. It was recorded for only $600 yet still sounds great. This remaster sounds loads better and makes the album worth repurchasing. The real reason for repurchasing this album however, is the spectacular live cd. Somehow the live cd sounds better than the studio album and is very crisp and full of energy. Track such as school really show off Kurts often underrated guitar work and his vocals are spot on. Nearly all of these tracks surpass the originals and sound great. It's amazing that such a wonderful live cd has taken so long to be released. All the tracks are great and worth buying. I would give everysong on the album a 10/10 except for sifting and downer which sound repetitive and to similer to the rest of Bleach. If you are a hardcore Nirvana fan this album is a must, but new Nirvana fans would be better off sticking with Nevermind or MTV Unplugged.

The origins of the Rock Revolution!

Bleach has always been a great album, but now it sounds like you took out your earplugs at the concert! The original recording was done for 600 bucks, this is how Nirvana was meant to be heard!

20th Anniversary

Nirvanas still is, and will always be, an amazing band.

Biography

Formed: 1987 in Aberdeen, WA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s

Prior to Nirvana, alternative music was consigned to specialty sections of record stores, and major labels considered it to be, at the very most, a tax write-off. After the band's second album, 1991's Nevermind, nothing was ever quite the same, for better and for worse. Nirvana popularized punk, post-punk, and indie rock, unintentionally bringing it into the American mainstream like no other band to date. While their sound was equal parts Black Sabbath (as learned by fellow Washington underground...
