Clarification on Songs
Todd Smith explained Selah's "stealing other's songs" in a recent local radio interview. "You Raise Me Up" was recorded by Selah FIRST, but Groban's people heard the song at a big-wig meeting in Nashville and rushed to record & release it before Selah did. As for "Bless the Broken Road", it was originally recorded/released by Melodie Crittenden in the mid '90s. When she was originally chosen to replace Nicol in the group, Melodie chose "Broken Road" as her signature song as a means of introduction for concerts, then they recorded the song for this project. Again, Rascal Flatts recorded the song prior to Selah's release of the song. I personally think Selah did a much better job of both songs than the alternate recordings. I attended a Selah live concert last evening and it was the best concert I've heard in years. I just love the harmony and vocals of this group! Their classical take of most hymns and songs are a refreshing treat in today's rocking style of Christian music.
"Bless The Broken Road" isn't a Rascal Flatts original.
The song was actually on Melodie Crittenden's debut album. Melodie had a country deal in the late 1990's and recorded this song for her debut album in 1998. It was a chart hit for her and was also used prominently in the Season One Finale show of "Dawson's Creek." So, then Rascal Flatts came along in 2005 and re-recorded it so it's not a Rascal Flatts original.
Amazing! Premier Worship!
It's amazing how Selah continues to get better and better. So many artists out there go up and down with the quality of music they are writing or performing, but Selah continues to top each previous album. Quality, beautiful and wonderful worship pours forth from this album and blesses the inner soul. I continue to look forward to each new song they perform.
