Album Review
Jason Falkner's Bliss Descending EP marks the end of a five-year wait for more powerful pop from one of the leading figures on the guitar pop scene. Oh, he's been busy with various projects but this is the first release under his name. From the sound of it, the EP could have been recorded the week after 1999's Can You Still Feel? It has the same hook-happy songcraft, clean but not slick production, and vocal purity. The only thing slightly different is a bit more reliance of synthesizers (as on "They Put Her in the Movies"). All five songs would have sounded great on an album, no filler to be found. Best of the batch are the textured ballad (handclaps, harpsichord, rich vocal harmonies and swirling synths) "Moving Up," and the hard-charging rocker "The Neighbor." "Lost Myself" is pretty swell too with dynamic shifts and a super dreamy chorus. Really, the whole EP is on par with the high quality of all of Falkner's work. The only downside is that this isn't the way overdue full-length record. Then again at least we Falkner fanatics have this EP to wave over our heads like the flag of the pop underground nation. That's fine consolation.

moving up
I agree, the end of "Moving Up" is possibly Jason Falkner's finest music moment ever. This record is a must have. His new album "I'm Ok, You're Ok" is not found on iTunes or in U.S. stores yet. Somehow Mama still got me one for Christmas : )
Great CD!
Jason is just amazing. Some of my favorite bands are Jane's Addiction, Radiohead, Weaser, Tool, The White Stripes. Why do I mention a bunch of bands are nothing like Jason? Because his song writing is some of the best you will ever hear regardless of what kind of music you listen too. Buy this CD and buy every other CD he has released. WARNING: Subjecting yourself to this kind of quality might make you realize what garbage you've been listening to.
So good you'll be left wanting more.
The quality of this jangle-rock is hard to compare to anyone else. Jet's just say McCartney likes it and you will too! They are substantive, so a 30 second clip might not do them justice like the payoff at the end of 'I'm Moving Up'. You won't be disappointed when you buy it. This CD makes you wonder if there's a market for good produced rock from folks too old to be on MTV and too cool to go on VH1? With the internet, thank God we have the ability to find gems like Jason's. If you like this, try to find his other stuff like from "The Grays" 'Ro Sham Bo' CD and see what he sounds like in a band with Jon Brion. You'll really like his other solos, too. The only question you'll have after buying this is... how can we get Jason to make MORE solo stuff?!
