iTunes Review

Emerging from New York's punk-rock underground radiating attitude and irony, Blondie earned critical kudos (if not hit singles) with its 1976 debut album. The band updated the classic '60s girl-group sound with a lean, leering edge. The template for Blondie's future success is laid down in these tracks, with Jimmy Destri's swirling keyboards and Clem Burke's rapid-fire drumming sounding especially strong. But the star is peroxide-drenched diva Debbie Harry. From her kittenish come-ons in "X Offender" to her gleeful yelps in "Attack of the Giant Ants," she's in firm command throughout. Harry leads the group through soft-core serenades ("In the Flesh"), surf-rock celebrations ("In the Sun") and sarcastic showdowns ("Rip Her to Shreds") with a wicked sense of fun. Blondie is both an homage to an earlier era of teen-pop innocence and an opening blast in a dawning New Wave revolution.

This album is amazing- as punk as gets. I started listening to this in high school and found Debbie to be a true role model for young women like myself. I love all of Blondie's albums for different reasons, but their first album-Blondie- is life changing. Buy it for your little sister or daughter for her birthday.

nothing special people (The 60's are better)

Still Cool After All These Years!

A great big rummage sale of wicked cool tunes! The epitome of 'downtown' cool, with backing vocals by Ellie Greenwich! This album reminds me of all those K-tel records they used to plug (right after the Veg-o-matic ads!) - only you never suffer from listerner's remorse. Wildly uneven - yet all the more charming because of it. There's a beautiful trash aesthetic to this album. I love it!
