Great album! Full of gems!
The styles are all over the place on this album but this intriguingly thematic collection boasts a number of Jedediah Parish's best songs, particularly the opening number 'Let Go'. 'Fleur de Lys Blues', 'Failure', and 'Poison Snake Blues' are also standouts. The lyrics range from sad to spiteful and are thematically tied together by all sorts of bloodsucking creatures and the life and work of Orson Welles. Although 'Bloodsucker' sold nearly a million fewer copies than WHITE BLOOD CELLS, these meditations pre-date the White Stripes' brilliant Citizen Kane song 'The Union Forever' by a couple years. Charming and creepy. And what an album cover!
Viva! The Colonel
JP is an odd duck, and this album is a gem. I like his lateer stuff even better (not on itunes yet, but check his website), but you still get a good flavor of his work with this.
