iTunes Review

One of the most auspicious debuts in popular music history, this is the ultimate Presley album hands down. Just look at the iconic black and white photo of Elvis in live performance that graces the cover. It feels like he is literally screaming at you to play it. And when you do, it's as timeless today as when it was first released nearly fifty years ago. Consisting of his initial forays into RCA's recording studio, as well as some left over tracks recorded at Sun, there is not a bum track on the entire album. Kicking off in high gear with Presley's version of "Blue Suede Shoes" this album doesn't let up. Killer tracks abound, including Elvis' take on the Ray Charles classic "I Got A Woman" and his eerie, almost supernatural spin on "Blue Moon." If you're looking for where rock and roll began, this is practically ground zero.

Elvis remastered

If you think you know rock, you must own this stuff. Elvis introduced black Music to white kids. I was thirteen when Heartbreak Hotel came out and it was THE revolution. None of us white kids had heard anything like it. Sexy, passionate, and very cool. Everything white culture stood for exploded and we were liberated to think, sing and dance for ourselves. Elvis sang through the lie of segregation and celebrated the beauty of mixing it up on the dance floor and everywhere else. This is the culture revolution of the twentieth century. You must know this stuff.

One for the Money...

Elvis Presley's self-titled debut album, when it came out in 1956, stunned listeners everywhere. After a series of extremely popular singles released at Sun Records, Presley went to record for RCA and made an excellent album of twelve songs,...each one not written by him. They were all covers of personal favorites of his, with songs ranging from artists like Little Richard ("Tutti Frutti") to artists like Carl Perkins ("Blue Suede Shoes"). The song styles include both fast and slow (Variety really shows up on this album, and that's a good thing). The quicker songs are the main highlights (True rock and roll at its finest), but Presley's amazing voice serves no better purpose than on the slower numbers. In fact, a lot of these cover songs sound better than their originals (Save for "Tutti Frutti." Sometimes you just can't beat the originals, and Little Richard is no exception.), whether or not the song in question is fast or slow. The Evils Presley album contained excellent music styles that gave Presley the well-deserved title of "The King of Rock 'n' Roll." This newly remastered version, in addition to sounding better, includes six great bonus tracks (Okay, they don't surpass the original album, but they sure do enhance it), including his well-knonw "Heartbreak Hotel" single, his cover of Big Joe Turner's "Shake, Rattle and Roll," and his cover of "Lawdy, Miss Clawdy." This version is probably your best bet because it includes some better-known songs that may be better for the beginner. It is widely regarded to be the one album that single-handedly kicked off rock and roll music. Elvis Presley's first album is solid all the way through, with awesome guitar playing and vocal tones that made the women go crazy, and the only drawback is that it's over way too soon (Not a single song runs over three minutes). That being said, if Elvis Presley was the King of rock and roll, then this perfect debut album was the crown and the scepter that allowed him to rule over the land. Recommended Tracks: "Blue Suede Shoes" "One-Sided Love Affair" "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Cry (Over You)" "Money Honey"

THIS IS THE AWESOMEST ALBUM EVER!

I love how it's so original, and yet it sounds good. It's classic Elvis.

Biography

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '50s, '60s, '70s

Elvis Presley may be the single most important figure in American 20th century popular music. Not necessarily the best, and certainly not the most consistent. But no one could argue with the fact that he was the musician most responsible for popularizing rock & roll on an international level. Viewed in cold sales figures, his impact was phenomenal. Dozens upon dozens of international smashes from the mid-'50s to the mid-'70s,...
