Album Review
Neo-progressive emo-punk outfit Circa Survive’s major-label follow-up to 2007’s On Letting Go is (not surprisingly, considering the Atlantic emblem on the spine) the group’s most commercial effort to date. Grammy-winning producer David Bottrill (Tool, Muse, King Crimson) reined in some of the more frenetic aspects of the band’s past, allowing more room for vocalist Anthony Green to fill with angst. Blue Sky Noise’s front-loaded singles, “Strange Terrain” and “Get Out,” are radio- and action/sci-fi/horror soundtrack-ready, employing just enough edge to please longtime fans and more than enough polish to lure Hot Topic customers into the nearest record store/download hub. Green’s voice, which sounds like a petulant teen mash-up of Geddy Lee and Jeremy Enigk, remains as divisive as ever, but it’s as powerful as it is whiny, especially on deeper cuts like “Fever Dreams” and “Imaginary Enemy.” Blue Sky Noise, with all of its spit-shine and modern rock luster, may not move mountains outside of its own pained and heavily marketed demographic, but as long as superhero movie franchises remain profitable, bands like Circa Survive will be there to play over the credits. [A version of the album was released with Safe Camp Sessions bonus tracks, featuring the band playing acoustic versions of "Get Out," "I Felt Free," "Dyed in the Wool," and "Every Way."]

Get This Album Or "Get Out!"
“Blue Sky Noise” is simply an amazing album. It’s a different style from Circa’s previous albums, but just as good, if not better. Anthony’s vocals are just incredible. He shows his range as he goes extremely high on songs like the heart-wrenching “Frozen Creek” and lower on songs like the chill-inducing “Spirit of the Stairwell”. The mixing, mastering, and overall production on the album is awesome too. Song by song ratings are as follows: (Best songs get a *)
-Strange Terrain: 9/10-Really creative, technical, complex, a TON of texture.
-*Get Out: 10/10-Kickass, awesome melody, gotta love it.
-Glass Arrows: 8/10-A solid song, but not my favorite.
-I Felt Free: 9/10-Great bridge, great lyrics, sounds sort of like “on letting go”.
-Imaginary Enemy: 9/10-Not their most original-sounding song, but GREAT chorus melody.
-*Through the Desert Alone: 10/10-Just incredible. Beautiful, beautiful melody and catchy bass line.
-*Frozen Creek: 10/10-Listen to it. Anthony just pours his heart out.
-*Fever Dreams: 10/10-Wow. Hardcore strumming!
-*Spirit of the Stairwell: 10/10-I don’t know where to begin with this song. I could write a whole review about it. Good guitar line, great lyrics, nice melody, very different.
-The Longest Mile: 9.5/10-Good chorus and message.
-Compendium: 7/10-Nice transitional piece.
-Dyed in the Wool: 8/10-Really cool guitar parts throughout this whole song.
All in all, this music DEMANDS repeated listens. Get this album or “GET OUT”!
Not Feeling It
Theres something about the album that just doesnt give me the chills. Juturna and On Letting Go had an element i couldnt explain that made me love them...a "surreal", very dream-like, natural feeling. Blue Sky Noise just didnt do it for me. I'll give it a few more listens. Hopefully its sinks in
Awesome Album words cannot express
From Juturna to On Letting Go they have been on an upswing with their production of aw-inspiring songs and melodies that touch the soul with lyrics that hit the message in a listener's hearts. With the release of Blue Sky Noise it is truly a privelege listening to each song, especially glass arrows and dyed in the wool, really powerful songs on this album. If you are a circa survive fan this album is a must along with there previous albums. See them in concert, they put on quite a show with the best stage presence I haven't seen in years. I could go and on about this band, but I believe the album speaks for itself, buy this album and it will be the best money you ever spent on music hands down!
