Excellent take on The Shins
One of the most intruiging things about music from The Shins is the serious, often dark undercurrent to their playful, dream-like songs. This undercurrent is captured perfectly in the Bluegrass Tribute. It should come as no surprise that the Pickin' On Series has been met with backlash to some of its covers, but that their cover of the Shins should be so well recieved. This is a perfect addition to any Shins collection.
Surprising. And Amazing.
I love the shins. Have all of their albums, singles and all that. And I've listened to these bluegrass covers for other bands, some great (moody bluegrass is life-changing) some crappy. When I listened to this album I was amazed. The Shins music translates so well to bluegrass. Their almost-maybe-sometimes-not-really country sound is just magnified by an out and out bluegrass cover. Highlights: Gone for good, Girl Inform Me, Those Who Come, and New Slang

perfect for sunny daze floatin down the river. i like a lot of the pickin on series, but pickin on the shins is the best!
