Tri Lingual Dancing Pop Megastar
BoA is an unusual star in that she is one of the largest singing sensations in Asia; crossing the language barriers. Along with Utada Hikaru and Ayumi Hamasaki, BoA achieved the feat of three consecutive albums debuting at #1 on the Japanese charts and is now recognized as one of the most popular artist there, and also her homeland, Korea.
Not only does she speak three languarges, she is a talented dancer, better than most dancing acts in the USA (check out her music videos to see her skill).
Every song on this album has a strong dance beat pressence and should be huge club hits.
1. I Did It For Love (feat. Sean Garrett): has a very Britney Spears sounding vibe that is a duet between BoA and rapper Sean Garrett. It is slower than the second track.
2. Energetic: Clearly one of the stand out tracks that calls on everybody to get up and dance! It has a very strong catchy beat but is slightly repetitive, but very fun. Worth buying if you like to dance. BoA is also sure to make this one of the highlights of any tour she does considering her ability to set fire to the stage with her dance skills and this song is definitely more dancable than anything else on here.
3. Did Ya: One of the few tracks that BoA does not have an electronic voice and belts out cleverly written lines. It isn't as good as some of the other tracks but is definitely more interesting to listen to mulitple times.
4. Look Who's Talking: As the title suggests, BoA is using this song to make a statement: "I'm here to stay and you better move over". It wouldn't be as powerful of a single as some of the other songs.
5. Eat You Up: BoA's lead single. It has an infectious chorus and she has sick nasty dance moves that go along with it. It will be stuck in your head for days!
6. Obsessed: Created by the man who brough you Rihanna's "Disturbia". Like "Disturbia", "Obsessed" has that catchy vocal beat in the background and is great to sing along with. This is definitely worth buying. It fits in amazing with mainstream pop but has BoA's style that is sure to be popular.
7. Touched: Everything about this song screams "Make me a single!" except for the chorus which is rather repetitive and doesn't really reach a peak as a musical phrase, and so unfortunatly "Touched" is slightly boring.
8. Scream: Is actually a cover from another group. It could be a later single after the more friendly mainstream pop songs take their time, but is sure to be a big hit.
9. Girls On Top: Is translated from its original language. Like "Did Ya" this song shows off BoA's vocal strength and song writing capabilities. Even though it doesn't mention it, the song features a rapper from Asia who adds to the song. This song is likely to be blaring from the radios of teenagers everywhere.
10. Dress Off: Has the provocative lyrics of all the songs, but sends a message about how motives influence what people do. Even though it's a good track, it kinda sounds random (especially the background music).
11. Hypnotic Dancefloor: Is sure to be one of the favorite tracks on the album. This, like "Energetic", is great to dance to except the lyrics are stronger and the beat is slightly slower. This is sure to follow right behind "Obsessed" as a single that has potential to top the charts.
Overall, the album is worth buying with it's infectious lyrics and incredibly powerful dance beats that would make any other popstar jealous. BoA's tour is also sure to be a massive hit as millions flock to the stage to watch her burn it up with her mouth dropping moves. BoA might be able to pull off a cross over from the very different Asian pop culture to American pop culture.
eh...
I was very excited to see that Boa was debuting in the US- I was a huge fan of her in junior high school and I love her Korean and Japanese albums very much. However, the style of the music on this new album certainly does not demonstrate her true musical ability- you can't really hear her singing in most of the songs- the voice synthesizing is so annoying because she really does have a great voice. I don't think the style reflects who she is very well, it is just sort of an imitation of the pop music that people in America like, and I don't think it was a smart approach to her US debut. I think Boa was successful in Korea and Japan because she stayed true to herself and the music reflected who she was and was very genuine. This is not, and I am very upset. However, I like her too much so I might just keep this album as my workout CD :)
YES FINALLY BOA IS HERE!!
BOA is finally in the U.S and for all those fans of BOA you will notice that her sound is different here. She uses a lot of synthesis in her album, and at first I did not like it, because it made her voice really high pitched, but you know what it's GOOD! The tunes are catchy and if you like to dance, it's gonna be your favorite BOA CD. For those not familiar with her. She is famous all over asia. She started off in Korean, and made it Big in Japan. You can get some of her Japanese CD's on Itunes. Anyway. now for the songs. I really like all the songs, but my favorites are. 1. Energetic ; So addictive 2. Look Who's Talking; This is the closest to her real voice, and the tunes get stuck in your head. 3. Eat you up; Got this song a while back, and still love it. 5. Touched; has a nice R&B sound. Reminds me something Beoyonce would sing. 7. Girls on Top; I actually like the Korean version better, but they did a excellent job making it fit into English. 9. Hypnotic Dancefloor; Just makes you want to dance, lol. I know I named just about the whole CD, but it's really that good. SUPPORT BOA NOT JUST BECAUSE SHE IS ASIAN, BUT BECAUSE SHE IS GOOD!! LOL GO BOA! OH, BTW, HER ENGLISH IS BETTER THAN I THOUGHT!!!! GO BOA!
