Album Review

So-called because of the two bonus tracks that surfaced on this reissue of Fat, specifically the two sides from the group's original single, "Ride the Wild"/"It's a Hectic World." Aukerman hadn't joined the group yet, while the music is actually gentle, surf-inspired power pop more than anything else. "Ride the Wild" is a classic enough lament over a lyin' girl with Navetta's semi-tremolo twang doing what it can, vocals left down in the mix. "It's a Hectic World," meanwhile, is even more explicitly surfy in ways, but with a nervous, flat new wave edge to it as well — not quite Devo if they grew up on the coast, but there's something to that comparison.

Customer Reviews

Simply Incredible....

Words cannot describe how amazing this record is. First, you get the "Fat" 7" as well as the "Ride the Wild" 7" on one record. This is classic Descendents, and the songs are great. This is the only Descendents record without songs about girls. If you really want to get a Descendents record, just get the "Two things at once" record, which has this record, as well as the classic "Milo Goes To College" record. Together, these are my favorite Descendents records. The lyrics are great, and the songwriting is at its best.

Buy "Two Things at Once"

This is the SST shuffle. They offer the original albums (like Blag Flag singles), but you can get two for the price of one. For a mear dollar more you can have the "Fat" EP AND "Milo Goes to College" at one low price of $9.99. If you buy this album instead you ought to be bonked on the head by a Japanese comedian.

whats wrong with 92 and on

the old albums are great dont get me wrong, I grew up on them, but the last two albums that the descendents put out are just fantastic records. not only are they straight up punk albums but the recordings sound so much better than the early stuff!!!!!!!

Fueled by "rejection, food, coffee, girls, fishing and food," the Descendents sprang up during the halcyon days of the Los Angeles punk scene; fusing the blind rage of hardcore with an unexpectedly wry, self-deprecating wit and a strong melodic sensibility which set them distinctly apart from their West Coast brethren, they gradually emerged as one of the most enduring and adored bands of their time. Formed in 1979, the Descendents' first lineup consisted of vocalist/guitarist Frank Navetta, vocalist/bassist...
