iTunes Review

Faced with the loss of much-loved founding member Peter Furler, Newsboys signed up DC Talk’s Michael Tait to take his place as front man. Born Again, the first full-length project by the group since the switch, is both a statement of artistic renewal and a reaffirmation of unshakable Christian faith. Tait’s aggressive yet polished vocal style blends well with his new bandmates’ sensibilities, adding some fresh urban touches without blunting the Newsboys’ trademark melodic bounce or rock crunch. The band aims for a wide scope lyrically, offering hope to Haitian earthquake victims in “Build Us Back” and taking an intimate look at one young woman’s spiritual awakening in “On Your Knees.” The playfully buoyant spirit that’s been Newsboys’ trademark for two decades comes through in “When the Boys Light Up.” Tait talks about his own sense of mission in the propulsive chant-along track “One Shot.” Tunes like the electronica-tinged “Impossible” and the groove-driven “Way Beyond Myself” cry out for airplay. A revamped version of DC Talk’s classic “Jesus Freak” ups the album’s energy quotient still further.

Great

Forget the Fuhler vs. Tait. Forget Newboys. Listen to the lyrics and be blown away. Remeber who is really speaking through these men.

Newsboys 2.0

The Newsboys are definitely back and better than ever!!! This album is proof that Michael Tait is a perfect fit into the band. It's not, and will never be the same without Peter, but if you are a fan of the Newsboys, young or old, get this album. It does not disappoint and each song is infused with a powerful message, strong lyrics, and lots of energy!!

The Boys are BACK!!

Born Again is the perfect title for this album. It's a fresh, new sound for the Newsboys. The band seemed to be falling after Thrive with greatest hits, remix and live albums left and right and only sub-par albums in between. Don't get me wrong, I love Peter Furler and I miss the Newsboys of the 90s, I grew up with them, saw them on the Love Liberty Disco Tour when I was 10, but it's not 1999 anymore, it's 2010 and it's great to hear a fresh sound from these guys. This album's a huge 180 degree turn from the seemingly lackluster "In the Hands of God" and is easily the best album since Thrive, if not Step Up to the Microphone. Great to have Jody back and Tait on vocals! Can't wait for this band to hit 30 years in 2018 and still be putting out records!

Biography

Formed: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Genre: Christian & Gospel

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s

One of the more media-exposed Christian rock bands of the '90s, Newsboys formed in the late '80s around a core of John James, Peter Furler, and Philip Urry. Though early in their career the band was panned for a perceived over-reliance on religious clichés in their lyrics, Newsboys later grasped secular music's alternative revolution in the early '90s for an image makeover, with good results. The group gained six number one singles on the Christian charts, and have been featured in more secular media...
