iTunes Review

A longtime favorite of rap critics and street cats alike, Cormega has amassed a thick catalog of work since the mid-‘90s, balancing reflections of the youthful narcotics dealer and Riker's inmate with more introspective and mature thoughts on life, love, and family. After several years without a full-on solo album (though he did release the compilation-style Legal Hustle and Who Am I), Mega comes correct with Born And Raised. Both consistent and diverse, the album ranges from rowdy bangers like the M.O.P. collabo "Get It In" to mellower fare such as the ultra-smooth, saxophone-laced "The Other Side," showing us different sides of the coin, both musically and verbally. DJ Premier contributes his signature punch-out drums, chopped loops, and scratched hooks on "Make It Clear" and "Dirty Game," fellow QB soliders Tragedy and Havoc lend an assist on "Define Yourself," while old school heroes Red Alert, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, Grand Puba, and Parrish Smith get busy on the grand finale "Mega Fresh X."

Sweetness

Love how the rawness is comin back reminds me of the 90s golden era of hip hop

excellent album!!

i've had this in rotation for the last 24 hours and its just incredible .. so hard to event singel out a couple of songs that stands out from the rest because the entire album is so thorough!

Mega did it again!

Unfortunately, Cormega is one of the most underrated and unknown emcees in the game. Fortunately, though, for those of us who have followed him, he is also one of the most consistent. Born and Raised is yet another great album from Cormega, and was definitely worth the wait. "Real Hiphop" is alive, people; you just have to know where to look.

An underground and critical favorite, Cormega was the rare hardcore rapper to win praise from all directions, and while he never quite crossed over like some of his New York City peers, he maintained a respectable independence over the years nonetheless, self-releasing his work on the Legal Hustle label. Born Cory McKay, Cormega grew up in the same Queensbridge housing projects that were home to a generation of rappers,...
