Awesome Singer / Songwriter

I've seen Erik play live many times, and the passion he puts into his music is amazing and he has the skills to match it. This album is a great representation of some of his acoustic solo work. Erik puts a great amount of angst and emotion into songs like Deserving, Song for Annie and Can't Stay for Dinner; Kisses in the Rain has that R&B feeling that you can feel deep in your soul; and he displays a great amount of passion and love in Weak Knees. He has the feel of a mix of John Mayer, Ben Harper, and Marvin Gaye while adding his own twist and soulful feeling on each style.

Great Debut Solo Effort

In late 2008, with only enough money for four hours of studio time, Erik Hartley recorded twelve original songs at a local recording studio in Boston, MA. Slimming the tracks to five, he created his debut EP, Boston Sessions. Though intended to exist only as a demo, as he began touring the Mid-West, Erik found an ever-increasing audience wanting something they could take home with them.

There is a truth to this music. A strange lamenting, anguished storytelling that can quickly turn from sorrow to spite, while hinting at humorous, self-loathing reflection. Each phrase twists smiles to tears and back, as the melody progresses. Erik has genuine care for his songwriting and a deep-seeded desire to connect with the listener through shared experiences. Each song is an experiment in expressing self-preservation through social interaction and music. It's like reuniting with a dear old friend and having him tell you the trials of his life through his voice and a guitar.

Erik has been in and out of the studio this past year developing both another solo album, as well as a full length featuring other musicians and friends. It looks as though he realized the benefit of a more well-planned endeavor and the benefit of additional time. We're all looking forward to the more polished, sophomore effort!
