In the wake of punk, bands like Boston were labeled traitors to the rock and roll cause, their perfectionism and sheen attacked as lifeless and bland. On this self-titled debut, though, guitarist/leader Tom Scholz’s overdub-happy meld of stainless metal, art-rock and plainspoken rock lyricism feels like something of an important vision itself. Singer Brad Delp had the chops to hang in the screaming cathedrals Scholz built of “More Than a Feeling” and “Long Time,” and the hardheaded individualism of “Peace of Mind” summed up the philosophy of the head guy, who’d escaped Polaroid’s R&D department to mastermind one of the bestselling albums of its day. Also, let’s give a shoutout to the three-minute amusement-park spin that’s “Hitch a Ride.” Its sped-up organ moment was the result of true inspiration; Scholz literally laid his hand on the tape reel to produce the effect.

This album Made Them Great!!
This album has some of the most influental songs in it of all time. The best song is definetly More than a feeling but, Foreplay/ Long Time, Peace of Mind, Rock N Roll Band, Smokin,and Hitch a Ride are all evenly matched songs, just buy the entire album!!!
as good as it gets
YaY first review! anyways I bought this today at the CD store, because I don't believe in buying entire CDs on itunes. This CD is as good as it gets. EVERY song is a hit. EVERY song brings back memories. To top it off, this release is remastered so it sounds better.
Perfection
I own over 1000 CDs. There are about 5...maybe 10 that I'd called "perfect." If I actually made such a list, this one would almost undoubtedly be at the top of it. Although the CD turned 30 years old last year (contrary to what iTunes shows, it was released in 1976), it still sounds fresh, relevant, and new, which is an amazing accomplishment given not only how styles have changed in 30 years, but also how recording and instrument technology have advanced in 30 years. That's an incredible accomplishment in not only songwriting, vocal and musical performance, but also in production, engineering, and recording techniques. In a word: Perfect.
