Album Review

Both Sides of the Brain is Del Tha Funkee Homosapien's fourth album, on which Del makes an effort to show both sides of his personality. For example, on "Proto Culture," Del is joined by Khaos Unique, and the two rap about one of their favorite things — video games. The listener also gets to see another side of Del on "Jaw Gymnastics," on which Del and Casual team up for a fierce battle rhyme. Throughout the album, Del does the same thing, covering topics from drunk driving and crack addicts to the importance of good hygiene. Besides Casual on "Jaw Gymnastics" and Khaos Unique on "Proto Culture," Del is also joined by El-P on "Offspring" and A-plus on "Stay on Your Toes." Del produced the majority of the album, and even though he hasn't produced much in the past, most of his beats are good. The listener can also hear Del's video game obsession in a lot of the songs he produced, as many contain samples from video games.

Customer Reviews

Get Funkee With Del!!!

Del is seriously overlooked for his ability to rap. He is better than Jay-Z or Young Joc. He is verry funny and does not talk too much about being so cool or good at things like being rich. My favorite songs on this are If You Must and Fake As F@%$.

Good

Not a huge fan of hip-hop, but I make exceptions for Del, Deltron 3030, Mos Def, and Wu-Tang clan. This cd is orginal, and a nice reminder that not all rap artists are the crap you hear on the radio.

If you missed this album then "Press Rewind"

Wow... this album is a must have. This happen to be my first Del Tha Funkee Homosapien CD, and even though del has had a few albums before this one defiantly did it for me. I happen to own all of Dels Cds. No matter how many times I play this album I won't play it out. Coming with 17 full tracks. If your looking for a funny/silly/smartalic styles with a smart and lyrical punch then this is it. You cant help to laugh when you here "Style Police," If You Must," and "Soopa Feen." The title doesn’t just say it all because the words Del raps are truly astonishing. This Cd is up beat and has the talk and rhythm of a Dictionary. Giving that Del produced must of the tracks and writes his on lyrics is worth listening to no matter what. This album will live on.

Cousin of renowned gangster rapper Ice Cube, Del tha Funky Homosapien (real name Teren Delvon Jones) was born in Oakland, California on August 12, 1972, and got his start with Ice Cube's backing band, Da Lench Mob. But Del's rap isn't as grim or violent as Ice Cube's is; in fact, he's been known to include something in his music that's far too uncommon in most rap: humor. Signed to Elektra/Asylum, Del's debut release, I Wish My Brother George Was Here, was issued in 1991 and produced by Cube and,...
