Album Review
If anyone ever got the feeling that, in spite of its success, blink-182 has strayed much farther from its roots than the band ever expected possible (and possibly ever wanted), one listen to the eponymous disc from the side project of members Travis Barker and Thomas DeLonge would provide even more evidence. Boxcar Racer removes the tongue-in-butt-cheek juvenility of the multi-platinum pop stars, and what remains could fit in perfectly alongside any of the emo output on indie labels such as Jade Tree. While blink-182 is known for providing poppy punk, this is as different as Bad Religion is to the band, just in the opposite direction, but the main divergence is lyrics that are retrospective and thoughtful — witness "Watch the World," which could fit on a Dashboard Confessional record, with a libretto that boarders on poetry. This is a far cry from the party-boy ethos DeLonge is best known for, and he wears the emotional depth well, with songs that are just as hooky as from his bread-winning main squeeze. Boxcar Racer Rocks!
They are one of my favorite bands. I hope they make another album. They are the kind of band to listen to when you feel sad, angry, or unloved. Tom my favorite singer. Blink-182 was the first band i listened to. They brought me into the world of punk rock. The song was feeling this. But now boxcar racer has made me happy with their songs. Especially There is. Elevator has Tom, travis and mark in it so it is almost a blink-182 song. Anyway boxcar racer is a great band and if you don't already then you should listen to them.
Blink 182 Minus Mark.
This is really good, better than I thought. If you like Blink 182 you will love this. It is Tom Delonge and Travis Barker. Tom does almost everything on here (vocals, guitar, and bass). Who will do bass when they play live? Hopefully Mark Hoppus but who knows? Someone's gotta. Anyways, if you're a fan of Blink 182 then you will enjoy this.
It's not Blink-182; it's the next best thing.
Hearing Tom and Travis in some of these songs, you almost forget that it's not Blink-182. While they've certainly veered a slightly different direction since their finale album, its still clearly remniscent of the band they left behind. Overall it's quality work, and with the exception of maybe one or two tracks, I highly recomend it.
