Ra Ra Riot's Strong Return

Eagerly awaiting two years for something new by this amazing band, Ra Ra Riot strikes back with a taste of what's to come on their sophomore album "The Orchard" with this EP. The tone of the songs are very much akin to what we heard in "The Rhumb Line" and other previous releases, although they have a highly organic feeling to them (keeping the theme with the album's name, I suppose). Track by track review:

"Boy": 9.5/10 - A very middle of the road tune that maintains a good amount of energy throughout the song. However, it's a bit short, the song will be released on The Orchard (unlike the other two songs in this EP), and you can get it for free on Ra Ra Riot's official website. But since the cost of the EP is only two dollars, you don't lose anything.

"Saccharin and the War": 9/10 - Like Boy, it's very tame, but the energy is there. Unfortunately, the overall feel of the song could get monotonous at times; though, the final descent into pandemonium at the end of the song took me by surprise and was enjoyable to listen to.

"Keep It Quiet (Bear)": 8.5/10 - I love this song; however, the odd pops and cracks in the background added to the microphone peaking don't help it much. I can see where they were trying to go with the whole "live" feel with it, but it just didn't appeal to me that much. The song itself, though, is probably the best of the three.

Overall: 9/10. A must-have for any Ra Ra Riot fan. If you're new to RRR, on the other hand, buyer beware; Boy will be released on the official album next month, and a different version of Keep It Quiet will be on it as well. I highly enjoy all the songs on this EP, though, so if you want to pick it up, go for it; it's definitely worth $2.

RA RA RIOT still named RA RA RIOT

so what's up with calling the band "Various Artist" itunes?
