iTunes Review

Ashlee Simpson is nostalgic for an era she’s too young to remember first-hand. Born in 1985, the younger sister of reality-TV (and oh yeah, music) superstar Jessica is steeped in the ‘80s heyday of Joan Jett and Pat Benatar. Like her debut Autobiography, I Am Me plays like a missive from a talented Valley girl’s bedroom. One song (“Burning Up”) borrows its title from an MTV-favorite track from the first Madonna album, while another, “Dancing Alone,” takes verbal cues from Billy Idol and the Cure. The strongest cut, “Boyfriend,” is the kind of bratty snipe that Jett would’ve been proud to snarl in her commercial prime. Given Jett’s ties to the golden age of manufactured pop (her cover of “Crimson and Clover” in particular), Simpson is more closely related to this ‘80s superstar than to her own blood sibling.

Very Well Done

Ashlee Simpson's second album "I Am Me" score the billboards in the year 2005 after her debut album "Autobiography" which hit #1. All songs are very well done and sang. Some of my favorites are: "L.O.V.E.", "Coming Back for More", "Beautifully Broken", & "Eyes Wide Open". All those songs feature very descriptive lyrics. The international version of "I Am Me" contains her song "Kicking and Screaming" which is also great.

Basically, "Autobiography" all over again, although that's exactly not a complement

After hearing Autobiography, I had quite low expectations for her next album. Autobiography was a dud and just another generic artist trying to find her way in Hollywood. I am me is no expection, I'm afraid. The album is rather irritable and very few songs are worth noting. Some songs can't even make it off the ground running. Ashlee Simpson still unimpresses me and maybe being I'm not the demographic aimed for this album. But, I'm not the only one left in the cold. Just steer clear of this other disaster by Simpson. Nothing new and nothing worth spending your money on. Just buy L.O.V.E., Catch Me When I Fall, and I am me. At least you won't waste your money, like I did.

Bad Job Ashlee

She might be the younger sister of superstar Jessica Simpson, but don't confuse their tastes or style when it comes to music. Waco, Texas-born Ashlee Simpson always loved music.
