Album Review
Named after the Eazy-E song and the Ice Cube film of the same name, Boyz N da Hood help represent the South for P. Diddy's Bad Boy label, just as Eightball & MJG did in 2004. The Atlanta group's admiration for N.W.A members goes beyond the name; they've clearly picked up some of their ultra-violent, foul-mouthed tendencies from the pioneering group, and the late Eazy-E even "drops in" for a guest spot on "Gangstas." (Producer Erick Sermon actually recycled it from a Def Squad track.) Despite the nearly Game-like N.W.A fixation, Boyz N da Hood sound Southern through and through, and they're definitely one of the hardest groups to come out of their region (wives are seduced, brains are splattered, bodily fluids land all over the place, etc.). Despite some beneficial beats (delivered by Jazze Pha, Nitti, and Drumma Boy) and seasoned verses from the MCs (a couple of which already have solo careers in motion), the album isn't all that memorable. At least the Bad Boy boss doesn't make a fool out of himself with too many of his infamous interjections.

Bad Boy South's New Group
Diddy's new group from Bad Boy South, Boyz N Da Hood are comprised of Young Jeezy, Big Gee, Jody Breeze and Duke. Here is how their debut faired. Boyz N Da Hood: After a decent intro, hard hitting production is solid, as each member spits smoothly. 3/5 Dem Boyz: Hard hitting production with a great gangsta feel was a perfect choice as a single. Each member spits nicely and Jody's hook was hot. 4/5 Felonies: Production was decent, I didn't think this was that special, but it ended up being a decent club banger. 3.5/5 Look: Another tough beat, hook was average along with the track. 3/5 Gangstas: Interesting production that was fitting and Eazy E's appearance was helpful. Solid track. 3.5/5 Don't Put Your Hands On Me: Hard hitting street banger that was decent, having a nice menacing appeal. 3/5 B****es & Bizness: Decent track with nice synth interjections. 2.5/5 Trap N***az: The anthemic horns were great and this ends up being a top track as they spit it for the trap. Jeezy has a great part along with Jody. 4/5 Still Slizzard: Skipper. 2/5 No Talkin: Good production, they do aight on this one. 3.5/5 Happy Jamz: Jazze's pimpish production is fitting for these gangsta braggary. 3/5 If U A Thug: Decent track here. 3/5 Lay It Down: Track has a decent beat, with gun cocking throughout. 2.5/5 P**** M.F.'s: Nice feel on this one, good gangsta talk. 3/5 Keep It N Da Hood 2Nite: Good production is fitted with solid rhymes. 3.5/5 Overall Boyz N Da Hood does a decent job. They serve their purpose of menacing threats, boasts, and gangsta. Production was only decent though, with some beats not too good. "Dem Boyz" is definitely the banger with its top notch production. "Gangstas" works due to Eazy E's appearance and "Trap N***az" is the anthemic hood theme with horns. There are several skippable cuts due to weak production and tiresome lyrics, but its decent. I suggest getting the ones I mentioned. Rating 6.5 out of 10
Solid Album
Dem Boyz, Felonies, and a few others, but overall not enough good hits. The good songs are great, hits, but the others leave much to be desired. Lot of talent in this group.
Great Start!
This album is like the combination of the West and the South! It IS unfortunate that Young Jeezy could possibly be leaving the group and being replaced with T.I. and Lil Wayne. Boyz N Da Hood won't be the same without him.
