Marin Alsop leads the London Philharmonic in a taut, dark and powerful performance that recalls the work of her mentor Leonard Bernstein. Good sound and fine performances of the Tragic Overture and the Academic Festival Overture as good bonuses complete an album that is both a great value and a very fine interpretation.
