I've been counting the seconds, and it was well worth it.

All I can say that the wait was well worth it! Haley Williams & Co. are my heroes. This album has anything I could have asked for. Lyrics that beat their previous works by a landside. Headbanging rock songs. Ballads that give me goosebumps. A ++++.

Noteworthy Tracks:
1. Careful (Great opener)
2. Ignorance (Even though it's been on repeat since I downloaded it in July, it still can't stop listening)
3. Playing God (Does well in describing my own thoughts on religion)
4. Brick By Boring Brick (Best song on album)
8. Looking Up (Song about how the band almost broke up but overcame their strife. Makes me smile)
11. All I Wanted (One of the best ballad's I've ever heard. gives me goosebumps. Haley's voice here is epic)

BUY IT THIS CD!

You Won't Be Dissapointed.

First things first - Is this Paramore's best album?

Who can say?

This is definitely the most mature of Paramore's albums, less instantly accessible to the mainstream than Riot!, yet more polished and hooky than All We Know Is Falling. The amped up maturity on this album is almost completely due to the internal struggles and near breakup the band experienced prior to the release of the album, which accounts for a lot of the lyrical subject matter, such as Ignorance and Playing God. Background aside, this is a stellar release.

The first song, Careful, is an instant highlight and in my opinion the best song on the album. The music is heavy(ish) but still catchy, Hayley's lyrics are well thought out, and her delivery is flawless. Ignorance is the punkiest, heaviest song, and another highlight. Playing God juxtaposes some of Hayley's harshest lyrics ("Next time you point a finger, I might have to bend it back or break it off", "You don't deserve a point of view," etc.) with some really catchy guitar work and very Jimmy Eat World undertones, IMHO. Bx4 is the most ambitious lyrically, but isn't the best musically.

All We Know Is Falling fans will be very pleased with Turn It Off, which could have very easily fit well on that album, and thus is a personal highlight. The Only Exception... Well, I had planned out what I was going to say about this acoustic ballad, but I'll say this: Go listen to any song from Coldplay's debut Parachutes, and then listen to this song. A glaringly obvious similarity plagues this song, the weakest on the album in my opinion, but definitely destined to be a fan favorite, especially with the girls. Feeling Sorry is my second favorite on the album, with its Riot! undertones and earworminess. Looking Up sounds a bit too much like the song before it, and probably should have been spaced farther from it, but it is unique in being the most direct about the bamd's hard times (I can't believe we almost hung it up/We're just getting started!). WTLO is killer live, better than this version, but still good nonetheless.

Misguided Ghosts is truly unlike any album song Paramore has ever done. It brings back the acoustic guitar from "Exception", except that this is the only instrument used. It gives the song a bare-bones feeling, along with Hayley's lilting vocals, and is an impressive song overall. All I Wanted closes out the album with a bang reminiscent, but not quite as good as, My Heart from AWKIF. It featured the most impressive vocal performance from Hayley since Hallelujah, and it will definitely be amazing live.

All in all, a great album from a band from which I expected nothing less. Not as good as it could be, but this band is relatively young and will just get better with time. I definitely have Brand New Eyes.

This is not the same band that wrote RIOT!

Paramore have changed. You can reject it and go ahead and give this album a 1 star rating… or you can embrace it.
.

Careful (9/10)- The overall instrumental work by the guys is really interesting to listen to, especially drums and bass. There’s a really cool bass line during one of the second verses, and Hayley’s vocals in the verses are great. Musically, I love it- the whole song just feels very fresh. Powerful.
“Open your eyes like I opened mine, it’s only the real world.”
Ignorance (8.5/10)- This is, as described by Paramore themselves, the bridge between RIOT! and brand new eyes. Josh and Taylor’s guitar parts in this one are probably my favorite on the album.
“Ignorance is your new best friend.”
Playing God (8/10)- This song feels like the last exasperated burst in an unresolved bitter argument. Josh’s vocal involvement felt over-produced, repetetive and almost robotic, as if to show how narrow-minded he seemed to Hayley at that time. I love the bridge and all of Taylor and Josh’s guitar work throughout.
“You don’t deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you.”
Brick By Boring Brick (9.5/10)- This one really kind of sums up the album. Really the first turning point. It’s like they’re taking a break from dealing with each other to deal with what went unresolved in “Careful;” the two songs are kind of companions. It also emphasizes them as a band, especially in the last thirty seconds where they all sing together (really catchy part right there). This will probably be their second single.
“If it’s not real, you can’t hold it in your hand, can’t feel it with your heart.”
Turn It Off (10/10)- Kind of addresses faith and how difficult it had been to maintain it during that rough period. This is one of my personal favorites on the album. It has a great beat, and the lyrics work really well. I think the bridge is really amazing. The last thirty seconds remind me of something Explosions In the Sky would write.
“I want to know what it’d be like to find perfection in my pride, to see nothing in the light. To turn it off.”
The Only Exception (9/10)- This is really the first time Paramore has gone beyond the idea that “quiet” = “sad.” It’s really sweet, and a nice change from all the bitterness in the first half of the album. It felt a little overproduced near the end, though.
“I promised I’d never sing of love if it doesn’t exist, but darling, you are the only exception.”
Feeling Sorry (8/10)- I feel like this is probably the weakest song on the album- but it’s not bad in any way. It just seems a little out of place. It’s all about moving on. Good, catchy chorus.
“I won’t look back, ‘cause there’s no use. It’s time to move forward.”
Looking Up (8.5/10)- The second turning point. It’s really about them as a band and how they came back together, how they'd been taking their experience for granted. It sounds a lot like New Found Glory. The end is really interesting- they finish the last chorus with a little guitar feedback, but then come back full-force, unexpectedly, with part of the bridge, emphasizing their point:
“God knows the world doesn't need another band, but what a waste it would have been. I can’t believe we almost hung it up. We’re just getting started.”
Where the Lines Overlap (9.5/10)- If Brick By Boring Brick goes with Careful, then this one goes with Ignorance. I loved Josh and the other guys’ vocal involvement, and it’s definitely one of my favorites musically. Definitely a feel-good song.
“No one is as lucky as us.”
Misguided Ghosts (10/10)- My favorite. Hands down. Paramore stepped out of their preferred style even more than in The Only Exception. Hayley’s voice was a bit overpowering at times, but maybe that’s why they tend to go with harder sounds. The subtle inclusion of bass and drums near the end was so cool. I love the rough and "indie" feel to it. Beautiful.
“We are just misguided ghosts, traveling endlessly.”
All I Wanted (10/10)- Beautiful song, incredible vocals. Very, very close to beating Misguided Ghosts as a favorite. The whole song is just one big crescendo, as there’s no bridge. Again, really incredible vocals by Hayley and I love the guitar in the chorus. Basically, after moving on, this song is like that last look back.
“All I wanted was you.”

RIOT and All We Know Is Falling both were little more than random songs put together in one album. brand new eyes, on the other hand, is the result and focus of one event: the near break-up of Paramore. Each track was carefully placed, and follows the whole story in chronological order.
Buy the whole album, seriously. These songs were meant to be heard in the context of and in contrast to each other.
Just take my word for it.

And, if I haven't said it already...
This album is freakin' fantastic.

Biography

Formed: 2004 in Franklin, TN

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s

Although their spunky blend of emo-pop and anthemic rock eventually made them stars on both sides of the Atlantic, Paramore began humbly enough in Franklin, TN, where lead singer Hayley Williams met brothers Josh and Zac Farro (guitar and drums, respectively) after moving to town from Mississippi. The two Farros had a young band that the burgeoning singer was asked to join. After the brothers opened Williams' 13-year-old eyes to the likes of U2, the Cure, Sparta, and Failure, the teenagers began...
