I've been counting the seconds, and it was well worth it.

All I can say that the wait was well worth it! Haley Williams & Co. are my heroes. This album has anything I could have asked for. Lyrics that beat their previous works by a landside. Headbanging rock songs. Ballads that give me goosebumps. A ++++. Noteworthy Tracks: 1. Careful (Great opener) 2. Ignorance (Even though it's been on repeat since I downloaded it in July, it still can't stop listening) 3. Playing God (Does well in describing my own thoughts on religion) 4. Brick By Boring Brick (Best song on album) 8. Looking Up (Song about how the band almost broke up but overcame their strife. Makes me smile) 11. All I Wanted (One of the best ballad's I've ever heard. gives me goosebumps. Haley's voice here is epic) BUY IT THIS CD!

This is not the same band that wrote RIOT!

Paramore have changed. You can reject it and go ahead and give this album a 1 star rating… or you can embrace it.
.

Careful (9/10)- The overall instrumental work by the guys is really interesting to listen to, especially drums and bass. There’s a really cool bass line during one of the second verses, and Hayley’s vocals in the verses are great. Musically, I love it- the whole song just feels very fresh. Powerful.
“Open your eyes like I opened mine, it’s only the real world.”
Ignorance (8.5/10)- This is, as described by Paramore themselves, the bridge between RIOT! and brand new eyes. Josh and Taylor’s guitar parts in this one are probably my favorite on the album.
“Ignorance is your new best friend.”
Playing God (8/10)- This song feels like the last exasperated burst in an unresolved bitter argument. Josh’s vocal involvement felt over-produced, repetetive and almost robotic, as if to show how narrow-minded he seemed to Hayley at that time. I love the bridge and all of Taylor and Josh’s guitar work throughout.
“You don’t deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you.”
Brick By Boring Brick (9.5/10)- This one really kind of sums up the album. Really the first turning point. It’s like they’re taking a break from dealing with each other to deal with what went unresolved in “Careful;” the two songs are kind of companions. It also emphasizes them as a band, especially in the last thirty seconds where they all sing together (really catchy part right there). This will probably be their second single.
“If it’s not real, you can’t hold it in your hand, can’t feel it with your heart.”
Turn It Off (10/10)- Kind of addresses faith and how difficult it had been to maintain it during that rough period. This is one of my personal favorites on the album. It has a great beat, and the lyrics work really well. I think the bridge is really amazing. The last thirty seconds remind me of something Explosions In the Sky would write.
“I want to know what it’d be like to find perfection in my pride, to see nothing in the light. To turn it off.”
The Only Exception (9/10)- This is really the first time Paramore has gone beyond the idea that “quiet” = “sad.” It’s really sweet, and a nice change from all the bitterness in the first half of the album. It felt a little overproduced near the end, though.
“I promised I’d never sing of love if it doesn’t exist, but darling, you are the only exception.”
Feeling Sorry (8/10)- I feel like this is probably the weakest song on the album- but it’s not bad in any way. It just seems a little out of place. It’s all about moving on. Good, catchy chorus.
“I won’t look back, ‘cause there’s no use. It’s time to move forward.”
Looking Up (8.5/10)- The second turning point. It’s really about them as a band and how they came back together, how they'd been taking their experience for granted. It sounds a lot like New Found Glory. The end is really interesting- they finish the last chorus with a little guitar feedback, but then come back full-force, unexpectedly, with part of the bridge, emphasizing their point:
“God knows the world doesn't need another band, but what a waste it would have been. I can’t believe we almost hung it up. We’re just getting started.”
Where the Lines Overlap (9.5/10)- If Brick By Boring Brick goes with Careful, then this one goes with Ignorance. I loved Josh and the other guys’ vocal involvement, and it’s definitely one of my favorites musically. Definitely a feel-good song.
“No one is as lucky as us.”
Misguided Ghosts (10/10)- My favorite. Hands down. Paramore stepped out of their preferred style even more than in The Only Exception. Hayley’s voice was a bit overpowering at times, but maybe that’s why they tend to go with harder sounds. The subtle inclusion of bass and drums near the end was so cool. I love the rough and "indie" feel to it. Beautiful.
“We are just misguided ghosts, traveling endlessly.”
All I Wanted (10/10)- Beautiful song, incredible vocals. Very, very close to beating Misguided Ghosts as a favorite. The whole song is just one big crescendo, as there’s no bridge. Again, really incredible vocals by Hayley and I love the guitar in the chorus. Basically, after moving on, this song is like that last look back.
“All I wanted was you.”

RIOT and All We Know Is Falling both were little more than random songs put together in one album. brand new eyes, on the other hand, is the result and focus of one event: the near break-up of Paramore. Each track was carefully placed, and follows the whole story in chronological order.
Buy the whole album, seriously. These songs were meant to be heard in the context of and in contrast to each other.
Just take my word for it.

And, if I haven't said it already...
This album is freakin' fantastic.

"Brand New Eyes" is a great album and brings a fresh sound with it

With "Brand New Eyes", Paramore continues to grow as a band and further explore new ground. The album opens with "Careful" and "Ignorance", two solid tracks that feel right at home in the Paramore universe, but they still feel fresh. Digging deeper into the album, songs such as "The Only Exception" show that the band isn't afraid to break out the acoustic guitars and slow things down a bit. "Misguided Ghosts" is especially unlike anything we've ever heard from Paramore, and Hayley shines accompanied only by a great finger-picked acoustic riff. The band continues to flow solid guitar and drum lines harmoniously with Hayley's vocals on the infinitely catchy and intoxicating "Looking Up". The album finishes strongly with "All I Wanted", which once again shows off Hayley's mind-blowing vocal chops. "Brand New Eyes" is much more diverse than "All We Know is Falling" and "Riot!", but it somehow still maintains cohesion and is an overall great record. Just like it's predecessors, it's full of songs bound to roll through your head for days on end. Spring for the deluxe version if possible. The acoustic versions are worth a listen and it shows that iTunes LP is clearly the way to go to fully experience the album. Now with three great albums in their arsenal, everyone knows that Paramore are accomplished veterans in the scene, and it's easy to forget how young the band still is. Paramore still has a lot more music to give us on the road ahead. Hayley puts it best in "Looking Up" when she writes: "God knows the world doesn't need another band, but what a waste it would have been. I can't believe we almost hung it up, we're just getting started!".

Biography

Formed: 2004 in Franklin, TN

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Although their blend of emo-pop and slick, anthemic rock & roll eventually made them stars on both sides of the Atlantic, Paramore began humbly enough in Franklin, TN, where Hayley Williams met brothers Josh and Zac Farro after moving to town from Mississippi. Already a powerhouse vocalist at the age of 13, Williams joined a band that the Farro siblings had formed with local guitarist Taylor York. She left the group soon after, signing with Atlantic Records as a solo artist instead, but clashed...
