Must Buy!
This is one of those songs that really inspire and motivate you to move foward. It's a must buy for anyone. I can't wait for the whole album! I couldn't find the lyrics anywhere so i took the liberty of typing them out myself: I don't know just where i'm going and tomorrow it's a little overwhelming and the air is cold and i'm not the same anymore I've been running in your direction for too long now I've lost my own reflection and I can't look down if you're not there to catch me when I fall If this is the moment I stand here on my own If this is my right of passage that somehow leads me home I might be afraid but it's my turn to be brave If this is the last chance before we say goodbye at least it's the first day of the rest of my life I can't be afraid 'cause it's my turn to be brave All along all I ever wanted was to be the light when your life was daunting but i can't see mine when I feel as though you're pushing me away Well, whose to blame? Are we making the right choices? Oh come on...
90% of the negative reviews go something like "IDINA SHOULD GO BACK TO WICKED & RENT BECAUSE SHE'S A BROADWAY ACTRESS AND SHE SHOULDN'T BE DOING POP! LYKE ELPHIE OMG ELPHIE!" Ok, that was an exaggeration. I apologize. But this is not a showtune. If you wanted something from a cast recording, go back to the Wicked, & Rent, or the Wild Party. But this is SUPPOSED to be her solo material, like you're begging people to do. Not like she WASN'T fantastic in all of those shows. (And See What I Wanna See? Phenomenal) Anyway...I love Brave. When I first heard it a month or so ago, I was blown away. Idina's voice has always had the capacity to be both innocent and haunting, deep and playful, at the same time. She's a severely underrated songwriter. And from the moment the song begins, you realize you're hearing something special. It is a departure from the SICBS days, and a little more 'pop' if you must use the term, than Here, but Idina Menzel all the same. And that's good enough.
Something Non-Wicked This Way Comes
Menzel's new, original material has started to pop up and I couldn't be happier(no pun intended). While I enjoyed her interpretation of the songs in Wicked, what I've really been looking forward to hearing is her own words. Ever since the One Nite with Lite concert at Madison Square Gardens where Idina debuted select songs off of her album called I Stand, I've been itching for a downloadable version of one of these ballads. So this is a special treat considering that I thought I wouldn't be able to purchase anything of hers until January 2008, as advertised in the video shown at the aforementioned concert. Judging from the concert and this single, I think people can expect a brilliant CD, produced by Glen Ballard, with wonderfully honest lyrics from Ms. Menzel herself. I believe that this CD could be her big break into the music industry and hope fervently that it is, because I can't wait to hear more from this refreshingly honest and self-deprecating artist.
