Album Review
The title of Staind's sophomore album refers to the misery passed on from generation to generation; specifically, singer Aaron Lewis' family issues. And Break the Cycle is an issues album — Lewis' therapy session for all to hear. "For You" reads like a final confession from child to parent ("I am f*cked up because you are"), and on the hit single "It's Been Awhile," he sings, "I cannot blame this on my father." Staind wraps up all this pain in deceivingly melodic packages, sort of like Nirvana's "All Apologies" without the depth. Lewis has a Kurt Cobain-like ache to his voice, which makes the more affecting songs — like the acoustic version of "Outside" — genuine (or at least appear that way). Cycle is ultimately no more than 50 minutes of standard-issue desolation, but the softness of many of the tracks gives it compassion, something most of Staind's peers have no time for.

Definetly Breaks the Cycle
Here is Staind at their best. Their sophomore album, not as hardcore as their previous album, but a more in depth and melodic sound that grabs your attention from the get go. The message exhibited in this album is amazing and one can take positivity in it by learning that suffering happens and to break the cycle of trauma being passed down from generation to generation. A wonderful album full of emotion, passion, darkness, and overall hope for a better future. I highly reccomend this, and all other Staind albums. Staind breaks away from every other band at this time by addressing real issues, not just trying to conform to the popular music scene.
pretty tight
aaron lewis rocks, through and through. if you like this, check out their first album dysfunction (or second, if you include the not so mainstream album tormented...)
To the guy who said "nothing we havent heard before"
you said this sounds just like breaking ben, 3 days grace, 3 doors down, fyi this was out BEFORE that. This album whether you liked it or not was great. so go ahead, bash mainstream, bash what you hear on the radio, but dont even start to call this 'mainstream'. It became that way because its great music. Its too bad i cant say the same for Staind's newer albums. After shades of grey i was no longer a staind fan
