iTunes Review

George Benson had made some inroads as a funk-jazz guitarist on the popular '70s label CTI (which also boosted Grover Washington Jr.'s early career), but it was Breezin', his 1976 Warner Bros. debut, that lifted him to pop stardom. A Stevie Wonder-ish vocal rendition of Leon Russell's "This Masquerade" was irresistible ear candy for Top 40 listeners; fans who primarily listened rock or soul fell by the million for the rest of the album, too. Over the light grooves of the title track (penned by R&B great Bobby Womack) and "Six to Four," Benson shows he'd hardly abandoned the fleet fingering of his previous work as a bandleader and Miles Davis sideman. Benson was rarely off the airwaves for the next few years; Breezin' was the real start of that omnipresence. Three bonus tracks make this edition a must for Benson aficionados.

Breezin'

It's a great album, except for one thing; tracks 7 & 8 are the same song! I love everything George Benson does! No one can play like Him or sing with such emotion, He amazes me. I've been a serious fan since 1980. My only complaint here is with iTunes. I feel cheated out of one of my favorite musical artist's songs. Please correct this error. Thanks.

Classic Benson!

I don't need to explain how good this album is but I just need to state that this album is one reason why I musically travel to the past. Highly Recommended!

George got me into Jazz music....

I was in college during the mid to late 1970's and I got a hold of George's White Rabbit Album. For the rest of the 1970's I just listened to Jazz (and lot's of George)... I was so out of touch with the rock/pop music of the mid-late 70's... but looking back now, I'm glad I was influenced by George. I think he may be incredibly underrated/under-appreciated as a guitarist. His technique, style, phrasing and interpretation is so fantastic and unique to George. On top of that he has a wonderful voice... I love everything he does. I saw him once live in concert in 1981 San Carlos rotating stage theatre... he was sooo cool.

Other artists I recommend from that time period (many of whom I got into because I saw their names on George's albums) Earl Klugh, Ronnie Laws, Hubert Laws, Bob James, Michael Franks, etc... ;)

George Benson is simply one of the greatest guitarists in jazz history, but he is also an amazingly versatile musician, and that frustrates to no end critics who would paint him into a narrow bop box. He can play in just about any style — from swing to bop to R&B to pop — with supreme taste, a beautiful rounded tone, terrific speed, a marvelous sense of logic in building solos, and, always, an unquenchable urge to swing. His inspirations may have been Charlie Christian and Wes Montgomery...
