iTunes Review

Former Procol Harum guitarist Robin Trower went back to his blues-rock roots with a solo career that won him great respect in the guitar community. Bridge of Sighs is his landmark second solo album, and it features several tunes that remain at the heart of his catalog. "Day of the Eagle" breaks out in a gallop that would influence a generation of heavy metal fans, while the heaviness of the title track and "In This Place" (which play together as a suite) evoke The Jimi Hendrix Experience at its most sullen. "The Fool and Me," "Too Rolling Stoned," and "Little Bit of Sympathy" feature dynamic performances. There isn't a wasted note among this trio. Trower's Fender Stratocaster has a richness in tone that rings true and resonates over several decades. James Dewar's vocals command an authority that leaves mere mortals quaking in their boots, while his bass work locks in tight with the subtle hammer-down drumming of Reg Isidore. Released in 1974, the album has a rich thickness of analog sound that was typical of the era.

Bridge of Sighs

I can't believe there is no review of this album. One of my all time fav's for decads now. Not a bad track on it. Rock doesn't get much better than "the fool and me, too rolling stoned and little bit of sympathy". I saw Trower last year at the House of Blues in Anaheim.. Still fast and good as ever. Do yourself a favor and give it a listlen.

One of my top tens

Play it loud. Some guy at a record store told me about this in 1990. Been on my list ever since.

Robin Trower Bridge of sighs

Amazing one of the all time greatest guitar players ever.

Throughout his long and winding solo career, guitarist Robin Trower has had to endure countless comparisons to Jimi Hendrix, due to his uncanny ability to channel Hendrix's bluesy/psychedelic, Fender Strat-fueled playing style. Born on March 9, 1945, in Catford, England, Trower spent the early '60s playing guitar in various London based outfits; the most successful one being the R&B group the Paramounts, who specialized mostly in covers, but managed to issue several singles between 1963 and 1965....
